How do you crank up torsion bars?

I have heard people talk about "cranking" up the torsion bars to raise the front of the truck a little.

How do you do this?

A 18mm socket on the 2 bolts under the truck about as far back as the door handles. Five turns got me 1" and the truck sits at 38 1/4 to the bottom of the fender lip. Good Luck

How is the ride

Does the ride change that much. Are the tires caster/camber still inline?

I've had mine cranked up as far as they would go on two trucks now with no problems. Ride doesn't change enough to even notice. As for alignment, just have to get it checked. I took my '02 in after doing it and it needed it. Toe was way off. Don't know for sure that it was definately from cranking them up since I didn't check it before hand, but it would be my guess. BTW, front end alignments are covered under warranty for 12/12.

KGM - Many thanks for the info.

18mm and use a big 1/2in ratchet. Adjustment bolt is hard to turn with a 3/8.

Just traising the front that 1" makes a big difference visually.

Thanks again.

Okay, to all who have done this, I need help. I can't find the exact 18mm bolts you are talking about. My vehicle is a 2002 supercrew 4x2. All advice on this would be much appreciated...Thanks...

Nicely done DAVEMAN!!!

Even got the PDF writer! WOW very impresed.

Now if you could just come to my house and do it for me while I sit back in my easy chair and relax...

Now as for the allignment, I need to get mine checked anyways so I am buying new shocks this week and will get an appointment to have the shocks put on and the torsion bars to be adjusted at the same time, then drive right over to the alignment place...

dcovell,

I gave you the procedure, now you have to do something...just turn the little screws a couple turns.

Okay, I'll do it if you fly me out to California, put me up in a hotel, feed me, cloth me, entertain me and then we can talk torsion bars. After all that, I will need a dozen donuts and a return plane ticket to SC, deal? Wait a minute, I forgot the beer too, warm from the tap

Just kidding, have fun!,

You guys did see the pictures or the beer taps on ***** didn't you?

The weather is getting milder, it was in the low 80s today. The mornings are in the high 60s these days.
