Factory keyless entry/ aftermarket alarm question

Hi all...

I have a 2001 Screw with the factory keyless entry and the add on keypad ( thanks to everyone here on that one!). I would like to replace the crappy add on alarm the dealer conned me into with a better alarm- mostly to add features like remote start, window roll up etc. My problem is if I do this, I dont want to lose the ability to arm/ disarm the alarm with the door handle keypad. Does anyone happen to know how to interface a new alarm, Clifford, Directed, etc so the door kaypad works??

Thanks for your help
Judd

There are aftermarket alarms that work using your OEM keyless entry remote, however, it will have the same features that your current one has.

What do you like about the one you have on there now???
What don't you like about the one you have on there now???

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT YOU USE ANY ALARM WHAT SO EVER THAT IS CONTROLLED BY YOUR OEM REMOTE!!!!!!!!!!

Most major alarm companies have technology such as "Rolling Code" and "Anti Scan".

Rolling Code- The alarm and remote use a different frequency every time they communicate with each other, this way if a thief is near and happens to have a scanner that can read the frequency at which your remote is operating at, he can easily duplicate it and enter your vehicle undected.

Anti-Scan- By using a scanner a theif can park next to your vehicle and begin to scan, (send) frequencies out until he/she hits the right one and "Chirp-Chirp" there in your vehicle undetected.

I know this sounds a bit "Hi Tech" but its out there and the major car rings use this technology, don't be fooled by the movie "Gone in 60 seconds"

And last but not least from what I have experienced (professional) I can think of any way to allow the keypad on the door to disarm your Viper or Clifford , etc, alarms, these alarms don't have a designated "Disarm" wire or anything like that.

GOOD LUCK

Sorry........

Sorry for the spelling on the last post, and as far as professional goes, that is from the Sales and Installation point of view, not a thiefs

I just wanted to clear that one up for you!

So HuskerF150, I guess the keypad will be worthless when i get my Viper alarm?

Since you are a prof, what Viper will work best for me

1. I want to remote start
2. I want to open lid on bed (which will have autolocks and autolift)
3. I would like to have windows up and down feature if that is available.

Thanks

Husker,
Thanks for your input. Im embarrassed to say I know what you mean by the rolling codes and the like. I should have known better than to go with the dealer junk ( I was an alarm installer for a long time).
I guess what may help the most at this point would be if anyone has info on the factory keyless, maybe a wiring diagram or color code?? I suppose armed with that info, I could figure out the factory arm/ disarm wires and with any luck use those to interface with an aftermarket system. My idea is to canibalize a remote if I have to to keep the keypad working. I love that keypad...

My goal is to have remote start, window control, maybe some outouts for something else ( I like the earlier posts idea for lid popper!). Oh yeah and an alarm too.

With any luck, I wont let out any of that magic smoke from the electronics. That stuff is hard to get back in the box...

I'd like the Viper 550ESP

Alarm, Remote Start with the options to do more, if you want to control more you may need to use a channel expander as well, if you want to control the windows you'll need a window module, I think its called a DEI 530T. Controls 2 windows up and down.

If you own a Supercrew you'll need 2 modules.!!!!!

Your keypad will work if you lock your keys in the truck!!!!!!!!!!

Beats wasting time on a locksmith!

I wish I could help you on pricing.....I'll have my own shop here in the early winter but I haven't found all my wholesalers yet. Anyways, with all of the features if would not be for inexperienced installer.

YOUR EQUIPMENT IS ONLY AS GOOD AS ITS INSTALLED!!!!!!!!!!!

Husker,

Thanks for the help. One last question.

With the transponder keys, I understand there has to me a module to bypass the transponder key.

Would this make the truck easier to steal?

Thanks

YES>>>>>>>>>

With the Ford PATS system, yes, you will need to bypass this,

NO, it will not make the truck any easier to steal.

The transponder module only engages when you use the remote to start the vehicle, Normally you would only be able to start the truck with that key in the ignition, however, when the remote start is engaged, the module "Tricks" the truck into thinking that the key is in the ignition, by no way do this module weaken the Ford PATS system.

Again, this installation is not for the inexperienced.

GOOD LUCK!!

Yeah, I wasn't ever going to attemp to install it in my truck.

Any pointers on how I can tell if the installer knows what the heck they are doing?

I beg to differ

Any time you leave a PATS transponder in your vehicle, even if it is installed in the bypass module, you ARE lessening the effectiveness of the PATS system and weakening the security of your vehicle.

A properly 'skilled' person could definitely use this to their advantage.........

I would disagree............

As I said before ......your equipment is only as good as its installed.

And yes, If a properly skilled person, were to attempt to steal your car/truck in some cases he/she may be able to do so.

However, you can overide my PATS module, and you still won't start my truck!,

I also wish you the best of luck, finding my alarm, in many hours, you still won't be able to move my vehicle, however you more than welcome to bring your tow truck if you want , this is why I have insurance.

I'm sorry to be such an A$$ and I know with all thats gone on in the world today, there is no such thing as "overprotection" but I give you all my professional opinion, and that is it, if someone wants your vehicle bad enough, they'll tow the damn thing. But if you want to feel secure and keep 99.9% percent of the trouble away from your vehicle and enjoy the comfort of a prewarmed engine, the previous posts reflect my views.
