Thumbs up Good Gas Continues...........

I am shocked that my Screw, 5.4, 2001,206,000 miles is getting 16.87MPG. If you aren't, the slightest misfire could cause lower numbers. I replaced #4 and #8 coils recently and I think that helped. I also do not drive over 60mph.

Cool

Just thought I'd give a quick update. I just made a trip out here to West Virginia to do some cleaning around our trailer here on the property. After filling the tank, and zeroing the trip computer, on the first leg of the trip, I traveled to my sisters in Pasadena, MD., which is about 1 1/2 hours. For about an hour on the highway, I did a steady 60 mph. The readings were: Time: 59:12 mins. Used 2.5 gallons. Went 54.4 miles. Ave. mpg: 21.1. But, if you do the math it comes out to 21.76mpg. The trucks "fuel economy" meter showed 20.4, which I'm assuming is suppose to be the average for the current tank full? The remainder of the trip I was towing a small cargo trailer which I borrowed from my sister to tow some garbage away. They use it to carry their quad-thing. The trailer is about 4'x6', with the steel mesh ramp that flips up on the back. Well, that wind resistance hurt big time. Coming out here I usually travel 65 on the highway, and even through the mountains, depending on road conditions, I usually get between 18.5-20 mpg. But, I could only muster a best of 16.5-17 mpg. Wow!! just from that little ..........

I have a 06' 5.4 2wd super crew king ranch with CAI, tuner from 5star tuning, exhaust, stock wheels/tires, and electric fan. I get 19.256 driving to work which is mostly hwy with a touch of stop and go. I havent made any trips since the mods so no avg on that yet but before the mods best i got was on my way to FL which i got 19.51 so hopefully it gets better on the trips now. I only got 16.814 before the mods on my work commute. With my little flat bottom boat, motor, and trailer she gets 18.564 pretty regular which it is a short trip to the river. I didnt do the mods for the added fuel mileage i did it because i wanted the added power which did fairly well for the seat of the pants feel.

Cool

I Yanked that Puppy!!. But I kept the intake tube. Then I took the stock airbox and cut the bottom out of it, then put it back in with a K+N panel filter. I still can't believe that the Volant hurt performance, but it did. I guess you could say that I actually modified the stock airbox and added the Volant intake tube

Gas mpgs

I have an 02' SCREW FX4 Lariat 4x4 with 3.73's and 5.4 and average 14 mpg. I mostly drive 40 miles round trip to and from work. The rest is around town. I set the cruise going to work at 60 mph and dont really abuse it much. I would like more out of it any suggestions would be nice.

In my 01 4X4 3.55 Screw I have gotten a high of twenty going to OH, on my trip to NM last year I got a low of 15.5 to a high of 19.5 and that's with about 167,000 miles then. Going over 75 MPH makes it really suck the gas. Heading to FL next month and hoping for a 17 mpg avg better would be a nice bonus, curently at about 181,000 miles. Not sure what mileage I get around town, but probably would be depressing. LOL

17 Hoping f/18

I would never have beleived it. I switched from my mechanics no name 5W-30 oil to Castrol 5W-30 and went from under 15MPG using the air up to 16.879MPG.

Good luck. Use the best when it comes to greasing the pistons.
