Question Nerf Bar Mount Point/ Westin

I am looking to put nerf bars on my SCrew.
With me weighing in at 280+, I want some secure bars.
How many mount points do the westins have.

Are there any other "big" boys out there that can suggest a secure nerf bar?

thanks,
~tjk~

I just chatted with Westin. They asked me if I was interested in the Black Stainless nerf bars. Should I go with the standard black or black stainless?

Thumbs up

I just had a set of black Westins installed. Seem very sturdy, but I only weigh about 190!

I do have a question about the Westins for those who have them. It seems like mine are too close to the cab to be much help. I can barely get my foot firmly on the step because the cab is right there.
Are there different sizes or at least one that hangs a little lower or comes out from the cab further????

Cool

tjk - I have the standard black westins.
I didn't know they had black stainless when
I bought mine. I would definitely consider them. Mey be less likely to scratch and I bet they look awesome. What is the $$$ difference. Anyway, I like either black over
regular stainlees on my truck...but that is just my preference.

I had the black stainless Westins installed about 2 weeks ago and I love them. I paid $359 plus $30 installation. I've got the 4x4 Off-Road package on my Lariat Screw so the Westins make it easy to step into the truck. Because they are close to the body of the truck, they're not much good for stepping down.

I've experienced no flex at all. In fact, there is another thread on this board with a picture of a off-road SCREW hung up on a couple of big rocks. The weight of the truck is being supported by the Westins-- good testimony to their strength.

By the way, go to the Westin web site for a rebate offer still in effect.

I live in the snow coverd, salt roaded NE, and I went with the chrome on stainless because I figured that anything else would get rusty fairly quickly. I see you live in the Frozen North, so stainless might be a good choice. I've only had mine on about 2 weeks, but I love them.

Mine feel very solid. I don't weigh 280, but my guess is that the 1/4" thick steel brackets are not going to flex. Go for it.

I would recommend getting the black stainless. I have the factory ford chrome running boards and they are recieving chips in the rear where it curves back towards the cab and also on the underside of the bar. These will start to rust if I don't pour the wax to them, which I don't mind doing but still $450 and rusty? I think not! Wanted Ford to replace at 6000 km but they polished and waxed them and that was it. I do that every saturday. Anyhow when they rust up I will go with the GORhino chromed stainless bars but they will set me back some serious green. Hope this was of some help.

Talking

I weigh in about 240 and there is no flex what-so ever in my westins. There are two body mounts for each bar held on by two bolts each. I have never had a problem with mine feeling flimsy.

You could also try Manik nerf bars. http://www.manik.com , they hold 280+ with no problem and are a bit more adjustable.

I'm a easy 250 right now and there is no problem with what I got. While the guys were installing it, I asked the same question, and to demonstrate both of them stepped on it, one weight about 220, and the other 180, and the truck moved, but the bar did not.

Westins are a solid bar! I am a feather weight at 180lbs, but I bounced up and down on my stainless chrome Westins and there was no give or play in the bar. The only thing that moved was the truck itself.
