Bed Extender
LRM,
The Line-X is the standard black. My Line-X dealer doesn't spray anything but the black. They said that the colored liners fade over time, so with a life time warrantee they stick with the black. I think the black goes well with the gray bed rails.
I plan on getting some kind of cover for the bed sooner or later anyway, but I do like the black.

skyjet,
Those pictures on your web site are really great. I now know how easy it will be to hook up the trailer brake controller, and what the LineX will look like. BTW, the dealer said the bed-extender cannot be removed if the tailgate is locked. Is that true?

Just a tip...
As it has been noted, the Bed Extender does come off fairly easily - and is NOT secured when the tailgate is locked.
However...
I've found that a bike lock - one of the coiled vinyl coated steel cable types, preferably - works well. Just loop the cable through the rear tie down and the bed extender. It effectively secures the bed extender - and still allows it to flip/rotate in and out of position.

The extender is secure when the tailgate is closed and locked. It can only be removed while in the extended position. At least on mine anyway...

CASUPERCREW,
If yours looks like this, it can be removed easily with the tailgate opened or closed. I'm leaving mine out until I get a locking cover. Let me know if yours is different.

Skyjet is correct!! I read these posts and went out to check my bed extender (which came with the truck right off of the lot).
It does indeed detach when the tailgate is up & locked, by releasing the locks and 'dropping' the end of the unit onto the bed. (I never knew this! Thanks guys!)
I'm thinking a fix would be to attach a post or bumper to each end of the frame (similar to the existing rubber bumpers) so that the unit cannot be disengaged from its' mount when retracted. What do you think?

Get the ketchup out, 'cause I'm eatin' some crow! I went out to check for myself, sure enough, it pops off very easily in the closed position.
I sure have been tooling around with a false sense of security all this time!!! That's what I get for taking the Salesman's word for it without thoroughly inspecting it myself.
Thanks for the heads up, and excuse while I run outside again, in my boxers, to put a LOCK on it!

Well... Now MY bed extender is sitting in the garage as well. How asinine were the designers?! So much for the convenience I paid for to be able to extend my bed at will.
All the manufacturer had to do was make the two end rails longer - close to the bed when the tailgate is up. It would have pivoted just fine, and couldn't have been shoved down and ripped off.
Don't see any easy fix, other than the cable lock somebody mentioned. Wonder if the factory will come out with a retro kit with longer end rails??

Just thinkin'...
Drill into the tubular frame on each side near the locking pins, screw in a stainless steel bolt or similar type of 'stud' or 'post' that is just shorter than the existing rubber bumpers. Secure it in there with a locknut and some threadlock.

I am currently using a cable lock for now. I am going to call Amp-Research to alert them of the problem and see if they will send two of the legs with the rubber bumpers. I think if I were to mount these as close to the existing end brackets as possible, with the screw heads pointed towards the outside so a screw driver can't get in there when it's closed, that the problem will be solved.
