Post Bed Extender

Has anyone gotten a Super Crew with the Bed Extender yet ? Can I put a Bed extender in if I have a sprayed in bed liner ? Can the bed extender be ordered from the Ford parts department ?

The bed extender only became available for order this week, although the Supercrews I've seen so far have been pre-drilled for it. It can be ordered from AMP Research, 877-983-6337, www.amp-research.com. I've seen them at auto shows, and have it included with my order. It's sturdy and will help keep things from moving around inside the bed.

You can also order one of the Bed Extenders here through the F150online Store. I have already talked to Roger Lemere about one, and he quoted me a price. It is one of those items that they can get, but it is just not listed in the store.

The sides of the bed comes pre-drilled with three holes with bushings or sleeves to accomodate the bed extender. (One for the pivot rod and two for the lock-one up and one down.)I would think that as long as you mask off these holes and bushings, before you apply the bedliner, you will be ok. You can certainly ask for the dealer to apply less spray on those side pieces. I'll let you know in April after I get it done.

The Bed extenders are now available from the Ford parts department. I saw one today that was ordered a week ago. If you order one, make sure that you order the mounting posts that it mounts to. 5 days ago I tried to add one onto my order but the computer said "Pending factory approval". My truck was supposed to be built today. I'll have to wait tell it comes in to see if it made the order. The price at my dealer is about $460. OUCH !!! Add it onto your truck order if you can.

What mounting posts? The 2001 SCrew's have three holes in the side of the bed for the extender. Do you mean for older models?

SuperCrew,

The guy I saw today had just picked up his bedextender from the parts department. There is supposed to be some kind of post that I beleive is supposed to go in the center hole on each side of the bed. Those posts were not in the box with the bed extender. The posts are where the bedextender mounts to the truck. I don't know if they were supposed to come with it or if they are to be ordered seperately.

I recieved my Bed Extender yesterday, the one I ordered here from Roger Lemere at the online store. It is the Amp-Research unit, and looks just like the ones I have seen pictured for the SuperCrew.

I am going to be installing it in my 2000 F-150 Super Cab Short Bed, and let's just say, I paid a whole lot less than the $460.00 that skyjet said it cost at his dealer.

Question

DougS,

I agree that Fords price is outragist.
After you install yours, let me know what you think. Do you think that the screws that hold the bracket onto the truck will come loose after a while or do they have a lock nut on them ? What keeps the bed extender from coming off the bracket if you hit a bump? Is it easy to take off on on?

Thanks

Is the bed extender that costs $195 list with a new truck order identical to the one for $460 from the parts counter?
The Amp Research unit looks different from the Ford unit in the SuperCrew Brochure.

Supercrew, thats a good question are they the same units? I like the looks of the one in the big foldout brochure but the one in the Ford accessories catalog looks different(more squared-off)and not as cool. Also in the brochure it says its made of stainless steel while in the accessories catalog it says lightweight corrosion resistant aluminum. Well which is it gonna be??? I want one like in the brochure!

I have not had a chance to install it yet, but I have opened up the box to look at it. It is made of aluminum and is very lightweight, it also has rounded off corners.

Since this is a "universal" unit, the instructions come with a template to put on the side of the bed where the brackets attach to drill the 3 holes on each side.

Since the SuperCrew already has the holes, I would guess that you would just need to get the proper size screws to put it in, as long as the holes line up with these brackets.

I have not looked at the brackets that closely yet, but it looks like they are similiar to a microphone holder for a 2-way radio or CB.

The back corners of the unit have connectors that snap into the tailgate latches to keep the unit from bouncing on the tailgate. To release those, the instructions say to pull on the tailgate handle.

Once installed, I will let you know more.

Doug.

SuperCrew & crewchief,

I think the one for $460 through the parts department is the same stainless steel one that you would get on a truck from the factory. It has the same exact shape as the pictures in the brochure. I saw one in person. The guy that bought it told me it was stainless steel and it looked great. The only problem is it did not have the mounting posts in the box. I don't know if you have to order them separately or not. This one was ordered through the parts department for the SuperCrew and not through the accessories catalog. I think the one in the accessories catalog is made to fit any truck and will not use the holes that are in the Supercrew for the bed extender. This bed extender did not have any adjustments, It was made just for the SuperCrew.

$460 & missing mounting posts vs. $195 when installed on new truck? This makes no sense.

I called the dealer today & asked to add the bed extender to my order or guarantee a later order for it would be $195. I'll let you know how I make out. If this price discrepancy is no fluke, everyone should order them on their new truck and resell them for $350-400.

Question

If the bed extender is easily removable, what, if any, secures it from theft?
