Trade In Time!
Trade In Time!
Well, the lease was up on my 2006 SCrew so it was time to go shopping again. I ended up BUYING the last 2007 my dealer had on the lot. $5,500 in rebates in additon to my Z plan price, AND he threw in a Ford bed liner! I'm very happy. It's essentially the same truck! Black XLT, 4x4 with the chrome package.
I'll post pics very soon.
The only big differences are:
No backup sensors - I miss them, and think I'll buy aftermarket unit off eBay recommended in another thread here.
Shorter bed - Yup, I shortened from 6.5' down to 5.5'. So far is hasn't been an issue with cargo, but I had to buy a new tonno. The truck is easier to park. I'm getting 1 MPG better with the new truck. Less weight?
Keypad - It's got a drivers door keypad. Kinda cool and may come in handy.
Flex Fuel - Now I can burn booze!
E85 is very available in our area.
Grill - The chrome grill is nicer looking on the 2007 IMO.
Wheels - I'm NOT thrilled with the "Chrome Clad" 18" wheels on the 07. On my 2006, the 18" wheels were actually chrome plated. I don't like the thin layer of Chrome material overlayed on the 2007 wheel. Metal? Plastic? I suspect dirt, rocks or ice could get behind it and throw the wheel off balance. We'll see I guess!
I plan on keeping this truck for a long time. Two year leases were getting expensive! AND since I own this one, I can have a lot more fun modding it!
I'll just have to ignore all the hype about the 2009............

Congrats on the new truck.
I had the chrome clad wheels on my 05. After 18 months they still looked brand new. That was after deep mud, gravel roads, heavy underbrush. They didn't pick up any debris either. You'll be good to go.

Thanks everyone!
I really like this new truck!
Thanks Ian. That's good to hear the chrome clad wheels held up for you. The majority of the time my truck is on pavement, but I do take it up into the woods of Northern Michigan every chance I get. Our family motto, "You know you had fun when there's mud on the roof!"
The only real wear on the wheels of my 06 was brake dust related. I have noticed my 07 does not appear to have the terrible brake dust problem. THAT will help the wheels stay nice longer!
Hey Kaboom! I love living in Ann Arbor, but wish it would SNOW more in the winter! "Like when I was a kid!"

I don't really think it's economical when you get a truck for a few years and get rid of it and get a new one. I can understand losing a 97 and getting a 07, but going from newer to newest? Waste of money IMO. Hardly any time to customixe it. Got mine 10 years ago brand-spakin new off the lot and don't ever plan to sell or trade

My Dad worked for Ford, so I get A/Z Plan pricing, plus all the rebates, and often Ford would take the trucks back two or three months before the lease was up with no penalty. We're talking nothing down, and $325 a month for my last one. Previous lease payments were even lower, closer to $250! When I was younger, I liked having new trucks every two years, but now I find the shopping process to be a pain. It will be very nice to just KEEP this one around for eight or ten years, maybe more!
Maybe I'll hand it down to my son one day.My brother in law just sold his '86 F150. His grandfather bought it new, handed it down to his dad, who then handed it down to him. That's just awesome!

Congrats on your new truck. I just traded my 2001 Lariat Screw for a new 2007 King Ranch and could not be more pleased. Wanted to wait for the 2009 new F-150 but got Ford was almost giving away their left over 2007's with the 2008's on the lot and 2009's just a few months behind. And by now all of the worms are worked out of this model. I have the short bed also, it is actually a little wider and taller. My gas mileage on the first few tanks has been around 18.6 on the road and I have less than 1500 miles on it. Let us know your mileage. Mert

One thing I really need though is the split bench front seat. We need to be able to seat six in the event the kids bring friends camping with us. I prefer buckets, but need the bench.
You're right, it's like they were giving away the '07's. I was pricing out a similar '08, and not very happy with the lease numbers. My salesman asked if I would be interested in purchasing an '07. When he worked up the numbers my wife and I were practically giggling!
THEN he threw in a bed liner. He knew I wasn't looking for another black truck, so he threw in paint protection on top! I've never had the dealer paint protection before, but it seems to be working. I've been in the woods a few time already, and don't see any scratches yet.
I really do miss the backup sensors. The '08 I was looking at had a backup camera system that would have been nice too.
I'm mostly a "city" driver, and get around 14.5 MPG on gas, and 12 on E-85. My old truck got 12 on gas in city driving. I have a 12 mile daily commute to work over surface streets. I have about 1600 miles on it so far.
Cheers!
Congrats on the new truck! Looks good.
I buy a new truck every 1-2 years. If you're a smart negotiator when you buy a truck, you can normally get several thousand more for it on trade-in than you paid for it a year earlier. It's gotten to the point I have so much equity on my trade-ins, new trucks don't cost me squat. I'm about to retire, so the 2007 may be the last new truck I buy for quite some time. Those 2009's do look tempting though! As far as mod's go, I usually buy a higher end model in the first place so there's no need to do much to it to suit my needs. Usually knock out the bed liner, tonneau and sound system in the first month of ownership.

Really nice truck. I am retired, thus, the console and buckets are perfect for me. Want to add a tuner, air system, and maybe one or two other items but since money is not so available anymore, things have to be done a little at a time. You are really going to like the 2007. Technology has come a long way since I bought my 2001 Screw. Here is a couple of pix of my truck.
