because the OP threw in us truck owners' faces that his new Japanese built sedan could get 36 to 40 mpg as if none of us could do anything for the mpg our trucks get so I posted that I could do ok for my work commute by driving ultra conservatively. Now, if my commute could be done from point A to point B with no stops, yes, I could avg between 25 and 30 assuming level surface and as mentioned before, non stop. As long as I could see what I am actively getting at all times. Our trucks get what they get for a multitude of reasons, how we drive and how they were engineered, as well as other reasons. If you had something displaying what your live mpg rate was it might prompt you to lighten up on the gas pedal just to see how good of mpg you can get.

I personally think 17 to 18 mpg avg for only city driving is pretty good for a supercrew 4x4, but that takes lightfooting the gas pedal the whole time you are moving. Just a little WOT action and it goes down.

I have been called an idiot and a fool so far, and this by fellow truck owners, but that is ok. I will keep driving the way I am because it does help my wallet. The scangauge II has already paid for itself. However, before all of you agree that what I am doing is just my imagination find a way to give it a try yourself.

That is all I am trying to do, piece it all together and make each piece as fuel efficient as I can. And if I do it all the time, not just some of the time, it shows up by going to the pump less and less often. And at $3 to $3.50 a gallon, my savings are immediate. No magic pill in the tank, no blade in the air intake, just a really light foot. I am not getting rid of my truck for anything other than another supercrew 4x4 truck so while I got it, might as well get it to sip gas like a hummingbird eats as best as I can.

When that Jap 4 banger gets run over and crushed by a Screw just remember all that money you are saving on gas will go to your medical bills. Me, I will just keep driving down the road nice and safe.

Hey guys, I was thinking... i'm going to sell my house and live in a pup tent with me and my g/f and son. That way we don't waste any fossil fuels to provide lights or heating or cooling to be comfortable. What do you think? and you know really, we should all not be on the internet, because the think about the massive amount of coal being burnt to power our computers, not to mention the the servers and phone companys providing service.

It's too late to stop global warming,If only we had listened to the beatniks in the 60's we would have found a cure (communism-socialism) but since we missed it we now have to find a way to get the fart levels under control,,you see scientifically it can be proven that before automobiles ,farts were the culprit but now nobody has any manners and we just fart anywhere anytime...THAT is the problem people,,,please teach your kids some etiquette about flatulence, and you beer drinkers are really elevating the greenhouse effects

Close. All that methane is coming from cows. If we could teach 'em not to fart so much. Maybe fart credits. Or harness all that energy with the new digital fartometer. I don't know...... what about a new tuning strategy for the cows. I think they're runnning rich.

Angry Hey A-Hole!

Matlan, when you're in your ricer, why don't you think of all those liberal politicians you vote for who preach fuel economy, and drive to their campaigns in Hummers? At least we are consistent in our views here... There is a word for that kind of thinking, hypocrisy. Until you have something productive to post, (if ever) why don't you keep your mouth shut. BTW, have you thought that you are wasting bandwith trying to blast 4WD trucks on a truck forum? Your preaching has got to apply to all forms of conservation, even electronic... Go join a Toyota or Honda forum, and bitch about evil American trucks and their gas mileage, until you realize that they make trucks with sh1tty mileage too. I know someone with a Honda Ridgeline that gets 15mpg, for example. I bet that POS couldn't pull its way out of a wet paper bag, and it gets the same, "gas guzzling mileage" a 5.4L V8 F150 does. A truck is a truck, and a car is a car. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Hope that wasn't too much for you to comprehend, smartass. I can only imagine how hard it is to think over your coffee can exhaust...

Funny...I went the other direction. Ditched my 2006 Acura TSX for my 07' SCREW and I love it! Gas is a small concern, but the benefits are bigger! I like it when everyone actually yields when I'm merging on the freeway. Guess the just assum I can't see them as well.

Ooh, my turn. Listen up Pickle Smoocher, I've been sitting in Mosul, Iraq since February without driving, and helping secure fossil fuels for generations to come. I will drive whatever the eff I want. So enjoy your nature festivals with Jacques Strapp riding beside you and your sht packed in the back.

If you no longer have a Screw, then do not post on our website.

I will not say that the displays are totally accurate or not accurate, I think they are at the time you use them. But, the only way you can accurately gauge your gas mileage is by taking miles driven divided gallons to fill-up. You must do this over several fill-ups, then add each of MPGs together and divide by the number of fill-ups; giving you a better overall MPG average.

You are not an idiot or a fool, just a little miss guided by a feature in our vehicles. That systems can only tell you what you are doing at the time it is reading your driving habits what you will average if you can continue them forever.

I have found that if I push the reset button at the exact time I start the truck each time, and then right down what the average is after I finished driving before I turn it off, I get a very close average that matches my miles to gallon calcualtions. If I push the reset button while driving at my desirable speed, then I too get high averages. But averages are not just for while moving, they are for, starting, stopping, and going from fill-up to fill-up.
