Question Noisy Windshield Wipers

I have extremely noisy windshield wipers. I have tried replacing them with new, but that did not work. What are some remidies you guys have used to make your wipers wipe clean but be quiet? Mine wipe just fine...but are so annoying with the constant chatter.

Thanks

For cleaning your windows I would suggest using something called Bar Keepers Friend.

Are you sure your wipers are OK? If not, I would recommend getting yourself a pair of Silblades. www.silblade.com

They are a bit pricey but well worth it!

When you use your wipers, right after they pass over the window, are there streaks on the windshield that look almost like the residue...

Ah hell, I'm trying to find the right words...

When the truck is shipped, there's a sheet of plastic/vinyl that goes over the windshield. When your wipers pass over it does it leave streaks that look like residue from that sheet? That's what mine has, and I've got the same issue with the wipers chattering. I've tried buffing the windshield with mcguires paint cleaner (buffing compound type stuff) and that didn't help. Cleaning with a razor blade, 0000 steel wool, and newspaper couldn't get it off.

Anybody got any other ideas?

I was thinking about the silblades but really hadnt heard too much about them and wasnt sure if it was all just hype. I will try the cleaner you suggested as well. Jag, what has been your experience with the silblades...how do they do in snow and ice?

HillbillyFX4,

My wipers clean the windshield just fine with no streaks. I have noticed however what looks like vertical glue lines or something at the top of the stroke on the drivers side. Small black lines that I cant get off the windshield....maybe I suffer from the same thing you do.

I'm going to see if I can land some windshield polish or cleaner and then go to the silblades if that doesnt seem to help. My truck only has 13K on it and the damn wipers shouldnt be shot even though I just replaced the drivers side blade because it was driving me crazy.

I will take all the suggestions I can get.

Thanks guys!

Question

Just a thought. Have any of you used Rain-X or some similar product on your windshield? I've used it on my truck and my Patrol car and both chatter. I was told that products like that leave a residue on the windsield. Just wondering if there is any truth to the myth.

My understanding on the Rain-X is that it actually degrades the rubber a bit faster than it would normally wear thus causing the chatter. I'm sure that there would be some truth to it leaving a film as well...

On the Silblades...

I actually turned Jag on to the blades a while back and, as he mentioned, they're worth every last penny. I know... I know... they're just windshield wipers but, these really are what you pay for. Also, as a quick hint, you should buy the 22" wipers rather than the size that is on the truck. NUMEROUS people have done this (including myself) and they work like champs to clear a larger area across the windshield... and they fit perfectly.

I thought about trying the rainX again...I used it once before on one of my cars and it worked great as long as it was raining steady but it just streaked if it was light rain or mist from the road. I think I'm going to order a set of Silblades...seems like everyone likes them.

Thanks guys!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the whole wiper (no arm of course), not just a rubber/silicone insert, right? So, by adding 22" wipers I'll get 1" on each end with support, right?

The wipers I have now seem to do a pretty good job wiping, but chatter something awful on the up stroke... They're still the OEM blades, and about 10 months old now...

Just curious, anyone got pix on an F150?
