Running board lamps, Anyone done this
Running board lamps, Anyone done this
I was wondering if anyone has added the new style lamps
to their 01 or 02 black plastic running boards?
The type of lamps as seen on the newer models Kings Ranch
editions. The lamp mounts dead center, has a split glass housing,
two bulbs (I think) I priced the lamps thru my Ford dealer, he said $55.00 each, I said, I DON'T THINK SO! Has anyone else added the lamps, and if so, where did you buy the lamps at.
Thanks in advance

Your first mistake was asking your dealer. Check at www.oemfordparts.com or at www.fordpartsnetwork.com for the lowest dealer price.
It is only one lamp as well. The housing looks like it is split, but it is only one lamp. I have them on my 2001 King Ranch.

I got some LED step lights I have yet to install, from Signal Dynamics Corp.
http://www.signaldynamics.com/
$17.49 each, 3 LEDs per light, one down, one pointing slightly left, and the other slightly right, so the light fans out.
Have yet to hook them up, but the quick test shows that they put out enough light to cover the running boards.

GREAT IDEA!! I need some light on my lightless running boards, those LEDs at signalwhatever.com above look nice.
BUT, what/where do you hook them to? I want mine to come on when the interior lights are on, doors open, unlocked... Any suggestions? Do I have to do a far wire run or is there an easy hookup close by the center of the running boards?

Using the 2001 EVTM :
The factory placement for the running bd lamps is to use a White w/ Red strip wire in Connector C148 which is under the hood, on the drivers side. There are 3 connectors here so I'd have to post the picture of the location and the connector pin out.
This uses the Battery junction box fuse # 15 ( 10A ) to power the running bd lamps. EVTM page 92-2 is you have one.
This is already outside the cab of the truck, and is seperate fused.
The other opiton which is quicker is :
Use the interior courtesy lamp circuit
This can be had by the Fuel inertia switch on the pass side kick panel.
Connector C206 is a square, gray connector body with 16 wires in it.
The black w/ lt blue stripe wire is the wiring to the door courtesy lamps. This is from the interior lamp relay and the GEM which would give the running bd lamps the exact same function as the interior lamps.
This would need to have a fuse put on the wires to the running bd lamps, and then run the wire down the door sill, and out through the body gromet.
Either way should work, I'll try to remember to post the jpegs of the C148 locator and the connector pin out, if you don't see the edit later drop me an email and remind me, I forget thigns at times
Good luck let me know if you need anything else.

Scully,
Thanks a million, I'll take a look at your pictures (if ya don't forget them!) later and pick one or the other.
Just one really dumb question (I'm sure!), ahhh, duh,, whats an EVTM?
Hey Rockpick,
Was the power rear slider install difficult? I was thinking of doing that... tought to reach the rear slider ain't it?

Nah, not really that difficult per se but, not a cake walk either. Removing the rear glass was the hard part. Electrical would've been a beast (because I'm electrically stupid) if it weren't for SSCULLY and JCM on a thread in the electrical forum. Those two guys know electric...
I had basically planned to not do the power slider and then I came across one that was cheap and I couldn't pass it up. I had to come up with all of the wiring and the switch because all I had was the OEM back glass and motor. So, naturally, I attempted to come up with all of the factory goodies to make it look like it was factory installed. I think I succeeded with the exception of me getting in a hurry and flubbing up cutting the hole for the switch. I've since ordered a new dash panel that should be here tomorrow so I don't have to look at the crooked slider switch. *sighs* Check out my gallery for pics.
