Question Gauge install questions

I have a boost gauge and a fuel preesure gauge from autometer I want to install but am not sure how to hook them up? The directions for the boost gauge says to attach the line to a pressure port on the engine, were is this port. Then the fuel gauge says to put in a T fitting in the line, Were at in the line does this go? BTW my truck is 99 4.6 if that matters. Thanks alot for all the responses!

Cool

HI!... JABBER : The fuel pressure guage can be connected to the SHRADER valve on the fuel rail. The SHRADER valve looks like a valve stem on your tires. It is located on the passenger's side on the fuel rail just before the firewall. It will have a black plastic cap on it. AUTOMETER makes a speical adapter that screws on top of the SHRADER valve and will conect to a -3 stainless steel braided line. This is a must. Remember if you bought the fuel pressure guage that does not have the isolater included with it then YOU MUST install the fuel guage in a guage pod OUTSIDE the truck. Do not mount a outside fuel pressure guage inside the truck!

As for the vacuum/boost guage, the best place I found to mount mine was tapping a "T" fitting into the vacuum line that runs out of the top of the TB ELBOW. It will give you your most accurate reading. My truck gets 25 inches of vacuum at idle.

Cool

HI!... NODRIVE55 : The 1ST pic is the SHRADER valve. If you look closely you can see it sticking up between the two black heater hoses where they touch. Just under my WATER temp sensor "T".

The 2ND pic is where you can see where I "T" ed in to the vacuum line coming out of the back of the TB ELBOW. I hope this helps you out. These pics are a bit old.

Yeah, Nodrive Fiddy Five and I are getting together to do some gauge installs soon, so any advice/pictures/instructions on A/F, electrical fuel pressure, water temp, and boost gauges would be really helpful!!!!!

Thanks Guys!!!

Does anyone have the Autometer part number for that
shrader valve adapter? I looked at their catalog, but
didn't see the adapter -- unless its called someting else.

to adapt my electric fuel press gage i used a part from N.O.S(not sure of part #).All i had to do was unscrew schrader valve from fuel rail, then screw in new part which the gauge sender screwed into

Thanks for the part number. Another quick question, should you put any kind of thread sealant or teflon on the adapter threads before you screw it into the rail, or are the brass threads self sealing? I don't want any fuel leakage, but I also don't want
any gunk getting into the injectors.

Question

Ok, so we get this adapter fitting from autometer, but were does it connect to? I understand the 1/8" npt (female) goes with the pressure sender, but where does the 1/16" npt male end screw into? Directly into the schrader valve? If so, do you have to remove the schrader pin first? Mind you, I'm talking about the electrical pressure gauge.

Thanks guys!

Question

So that 1/16" end of the fitting screws into the schrader valve, and in doing so pushes down on the pin to expose the fuel pressure to the sender unit? Can it be that easy?

So I should give Summit a call and order that #3280, huh?

I guess what is so confusing, it the number of way one could adapt the sender gauge to the schrader valve.

Thanks All,

Matt

Is there any residual fuel pressure in the rail that has to
be relieved before one would attempt to install any sending units etc.? Also, are there any worries about getting air trapped in the rail somehow, which would need to be bled off?

Hey Runair14,
I'm planning to screw the sender unit into the adapter piece (teflon tape it) and then screw the 1/16" npt male end into the schrader valve. That way when the adapter presses down on the pin, it won't squirt out that much. I'll let you know if I get a chance to attempt it this week.

The Autometer fuel rail adapter will not fit in the shrader valve. It will thread into the fuel rail. As fuel goes, the most that came out when I did it was about a teaspoon. Below is a pic of the adapter on the fuel rail and the sending unit.
