Magnacharger?
Magnacharger?
Why is the Eaton m-90 supercharger used for the magnacharger kit and not the m-112 supercharger which is used for the lightning? I thought the motors where configured the same except for a few internals.
If I was to use the m-112 supercharger instead of the m-90 supercharger would I then be able to use the pulley set up from the lightning to achieve more boost, say 10psi. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the m-90 is shorter which causes us to not have a dedicated drive belt?
If by using the m-112 instead of the m-90 wouldn't it be easier than fabing new smaller pulleys to slow down accessories and bigger pulley on the fly wheel to achieve 10psi?
I am just trying to figure which way i would like to go with the 5.4 and a supercharger so any help is appreciated, Thanks

Thanks Crash,
I have a little heavier truck than most of the f150's so 10-12 psi range would be great from the magna charger!!! So i will be patient until the setup is figured out then i plan to buy!! I haven't priced a complete lightning setup and I am sure it is a pain to tune, plus the cost may be a bit steeper than its worth............
thanks for the info and i'll be lurking

THOR,
I have a 5.4 150 HD supercrew with the magnason supercharger on it and also want more and have gotter more. The way I did it was to change the intake system and went to a flip chip. I also have a proto type pulley that we are in the process of patening for market for an upgrade for these blowers. I will keep you and all magnuson folks up to date as we progress. But we will see 8 to 9 PSI with this system.
Bones.

I talked with Bill Porter, a tech at Magnacharger, today. He is a nice guy and will talk straight with me. He said that Magnacharger is shying away from the pulley thing again and it seems they just don't want to put a pulley on the market probably for liability reasons. So.... I know Crash is working on this as well as others and I include myself in that group. Another 30 or so rwhp would sure be nice to have but I guess we must stay patient a little longer. It sure would be nice if Ford had the same part number for the crank pulley's on the 5.4 L Lightning and the 4.6L!
Well, I thought I would pick up the ball an run with it. I am having a pulley machined tomorrow and as always I will share my info and sources. I, just this morning, bolted on my Ported TB, Ported Intake, and for lack of a better description, Ported Air Chamber. I had the BBK butterfly flattened with flush screws and a flattened shaft. There was a missmatch on the lower intake elbow as it bolted to the Magnacharger and that was pinned and port matched. I also had some mods down to the underside of the air chamber on the Magnacharger. There was an install screw which stuck down into the air stream and one of the threaded nipples on the underside was ground down flush to improve air flow. I noticed seat of the pants results along with a 200 rpm gain at idle after the computer figured out what was going on. I also got a check engine light which I associated with the high idle. I disconnected the battery and readjusted the idle at the TB and she is idling at 600 rpm. The check engine light is gone. What I am saying is that the computer noticed the difference! There are detailed pictures of this mod on my album here at F150. Look for "the Beast" album
HI!... FLATSMAN : I planned on doing the exact same thing when I get my MAGNACHARGER. My TB elbow has already been ported/polished out to a true 80MM for my HOLLEY "BILLET" TB. I plan on totally blueprinting the MAGNACHARGER intake and compressor before installing. I also have a spare set of "99" P.I heads that I plan on sending out to SHM to get a "LITTLE" WORK done to them.
I'm still aiming for high 13's N/A this SPRING. Now that I'm making and selling my own F-150 product line, it will help me out a bit.

Hi Neal, There are a few things on the Magnacharger that you can definately improve upon. I didn't want to get too crazy but I spent about $200 on this project (having it done) and I think it is well worth it. If you would like to get a preview of the air chamber, go over to my album and just go to the last 10 or so pictures. I think you could improve the so called air chamber the most. I just came in from my garage and I have the pulley off so I will have a new one made tomorrow. I will be shooting for 8 lbs but I am wondering if 7 lbs might be safer. Any ideas? What do you think Crash?
After the pulley install, I will go to the dyno for a F/A and RWHP figure. I am pretty sure I can get this truck into the high 13's but I am just about to the end of my rope, if you know what I mean. Thanks for the response Neal!

HI!... FLATSMAN : Well that's one good thing about me. I do my own porting/polishing!
I try to do all my own work and fabricate my own parts for myself and others wishing to purchase them. I will be offering these products after the new year, so look for my announcment. I have a guy I'm working with right now that can make custom pulley's for the MAGNACHARGER for 5 - 12 PSI. As soon as I get my MAGNACHARGER, I'm going to get a 10lb pulley made from him and install it. He has tested a 8LB pulley on the 5.4 and with a custom chip got a 122H.P increase over a stock 5.4.

Good Luck Neal, as you know, there is a huge market out there. I will keep you posted on my progress. When I put the pulley on, I think I have gone about as far as I can go without opening up the motor or changing heads. Take Care!
Hello from Martin Manufacturing in Tampa Florida. I am starting my pulley project today and thought I would pass on some info I have so far. The stock pulley is 2.940 inches to the top of the ribs and the new pulley will be 2.750 to the top of the ribs. We figure the present blower rpm at my 5400 rpm shift point with the stock pulley is 12085 rpm and the new rpm will be 12920 which is still under the 13000 limit put out by Magnacharger. We are working off blower rpm right now and I plan to install this pulley tonight and see where my boost sets. The plan is to turn it down a little tighter if we can but we are also trying to be safe. I attached a picture of the stock pulley along with the aluminum blank. More later.....
