T-Stat

After a quick search (sitting at the airport getting ready to board), the reviews are mixed on which t-stat to run. I'm on my way home to install the s/c and this may be the last detail to work out. (Yeah right!)

Should I stick with stock, or go 180?

I should be starting the install tomorrow.

I'm rocking the stocker, wouldn't hurt for 170-or 180 though I don't guess.

The Whipple kit comes with a 160 just to reference. Sorry i can't remember which sc you selected. However 160 is just to cold. I am running a 170 and this is also what Troyer recommended.

My 170 today in 90-95 heat (which is early for this time of the year) was around 188-192 on the gauge. I'll swap for my 160 when it gets around 100ish.

I think you need to check out your cooling system. If you're not seeing engine temps within a few degrees of that thermostat, you're not going to see any differences with a colder stat. I'd flush the cooling system and make sure your fan clutch is working.

Mine is the same way. If you are reading temps via the pcm you will see this. The pcm does not show an actual coolant temp but rather an average of head and coolant temp combined.

Also forgot to mention the a/c was on full blast which also robs the cooling of the radiator with the condensor sitting in front of it.
