New Metco Overdriven Crank Pulley
New Metco Overdriven Crank Pulley
Hi Guys,
was just delivered today. This pulley is for us with the single belt supercharger setup, its from Mecto and is at 7.55". This will replace the smaller one I installed not that long ago which was around 6.85, we will see how much of an increase in boost this will produce, next thing I have to do is get it re-tuned, found a local shop who looks promising. Here are a few pictures of the Metco compared to the stocker which is about 6.5".

Not much more than what I have right now, maybe 1-2 pounds extra, I mainly want to put the stocker upper pulley on and use this new metco pulley and hope that it will help with the belt slippage.

It was like 245 plus free shipping, they drop shipped it from Metco just south of me, was here real quick. Here is the cheapest site I had found at the time...

It is an 8 rib just in case you decide to upgrade later on down the road.

Well I got the metco pulley and meziere water pump installed yesterday. Went to fire it up and nothing happened at first, wouldn't even turn over, re-checked all connections again and tried again. It kind of did a slow turnover like the battery was dead, tried again and she fired up. That's when the problems really started...I heard a loud grinding and knocking noise, left the engine running so i could see where it was coming from. I get to the front of the truck and see belt rubber and pretty and bright aluminum flying all over.. sort of looked like a t.v. show skit where something was being ground up and you see chips fly all over...kinda of funny after the fact. Well I shut it down and look all over to where the pulley could be grinding up against, i checked all over a few times and didn't see nothing. I start it up again and get under the truck, nothing under there grinding...hmmm, shut her down again and look over it again, then I see it, its the front of the cover where that bolt mount I guess they used for the lightning setups and where the roush hooks up a cage I think they call it, it looks like a little wing support to add some strength to the bolt hole area, that little wing was acting like a lathe and just chewing it up. I missed that when checking for clearance issues, now I have to find a way to get to it with a grinder or something, the thing with the metco pulley is there are no holes to pull the pulley back out so I cannot use a regular balancer puller, not sure what to use but I think I can get a grinding or cut off wheel in there but it will be close. So those thinking of getting one make sure to make some modifications to the bottom part of that support or watch 250 dollars literally go up in dust... overall the install of the meziere pump and metco was fairly easy going, had no issues at all getting them hooked up.
if you look at the first picture of my pulley in the first post that last part where its kind of thick and would be near the timing cover, that thick part is now basically gone..
I'd try that first, no need to take it off, it should saw right through that soft aluminum pretty easily.
If worse comes to worse, OTC does make a puller for the pulleys without the bolt holes. I used one to get my pulley off to install one with bolt holes for my supercharger. 2007 and 2008 trucks have pulleys without the holes.
Gonna try to get to it today if it stops raining, have to do it in the driveway as the garage is packed with a trailer and junk. I will keep you guys posted on the outcome.
Thanks
