8" Sub Box

Hey guys, I am looking to add a single 8" sub under the rear seat of my '04 supercrew. I want it to be fairly hidden and don't need anything too fancy or huge bass, just something to add a little body to the music. A stock sub would be perfect but I dont have one and they aren't cheap to buy. I am hoping to spend under $200 and probably closer to $100 on the setup (used subs and amps are fine with me). Does anyone have any experience with this enclosure? Its really cheap and tan which are pluses, but it has no dimensions so I can't tell if it will stick out or how many cubic inches it has to match a sub to it. Any advice is appreciated as I know very little about audio equipment. Is there a big difference between 200W and 400W 8"ers? Is more or less resistance better (2ohm vs. 4 ohm)? Any recommendations for the best 8 between $50 and $100?

I have a similar box with a 10" in it and mine is rated at .70ft^3 most boxes to fit under the back seat of 04-08 f150 are in the .6 to .75 range.

Do you have any pics of your setup? Is it ported or sealed? Are you happy with the sound? Can you get measurements for me so I have an approximate idea?

I don't have any pics, but I have the same box that Msall has but mine came loaded already with a kicker CVR 10". The sound is decent for what I listen to, mostly rock and metal. I know some people are not fans of kicker subs, but it suits my needs.

You can also get this box w/o a sub in it in either 8" or 10" cutout for a buck 09, 20 bucks extra for tan carpet.

Yeah, that looks pretty close to what I listed, maybe a little nicer. Maybe I'll just order the box in my OP since it's only $25 and try it out. If I don't like it I could probably sell it for more than I paid lol. So how about some 8" sub suggestions?

That box doesn't look like it has enough clearance for any sub... looks like the cone will be smacking against the floor.

hopefully that isn't the case but I guess I'll find out, ordered it last night. Worst case I sell it for what I paid since it was so cheap.

I looked around there a bit but it seems like all their boxes are for dual subs or larger than 8s.

look in the ads here, I got my factory box with a kicker sub and the factory amp for $100 shipped, I thought there was one for sell for $125 right now though.

I got the following in my subs/amp

Kicker Zx300.1 $170.00
Sub/box $100.00
install kit $50.00

Most subs are 4ohm, you get 2ohm from a dual 4ohm sub.

my sub is a single 4ohm, hooked to a 2ohm amp, not gonna hurt it I don;t think though.

Just make sure the amp you get is larger than the sub can handle, under powering a sub is worse than over powering one. Like a 250W amp for a 150-200W sub would be a good match.

Rockford Fosgate has a cheep entry level amp starting at $129.99 and I think a brand new Kicker 8" is like $80.

Used is ok, but look around and see if you can get a good deal on new.

Like some one else said http://www.supercrewsound.com/ is a good place to look around

try http://www.crutchfield.com/ as well.

there are some other places though, and ebay is always a good place to look, I got my dvd player for a little more $100 off retail.

Amps are rated to a certain load, as long as you are at or above this load, you're okay. You'll get less power from most amps with an increased load

It's not the under powering that hurts it, it's the fact that most users will use the gain as a volume control to increase the power and clip the hell out of the amp. It's the clipping that hurts the sub.

So if I get a 200W RMS 800W peak sub I want like a 300W amp? Do amps wear out like subs do? I am hoping to get a used amp to save some $$$.

What the guy above said is right, and what I should have said.
normally amps outlast subs, as long as they where not played to death and over heated/shut down too much.

just don't use the amps gain as volume control and you will be fine, but that should be a good match.
