13TW5 Sub Box Plans for 04-08 F150 Supercrew

I've had a few pm's and questions about the box I built for my 13TW5 so I figured it would be best to start a new thread with the dimensions of the box. I built the box using 5/8" MDF because I couldn't get 3/4" MDF to work with the space I had available. Since I used 5/8" MDF I did put an internal brace in the box and I do not show it in the drawing. With the internal brace and sub displacement subtracted from the net airspace the box is .805 ft^3 which is right on with JL specs. Other than that I think the picture speaks for itself but if there are any questions just ask.......

Cool of you to share that info. It doesn't get much clearer than that!

Thanks guys.

I'm very happy with this setup and I don't see myself changing it out anytime soon. That says a lot because I'm a man of change!

Since I've installed it I've noticed that it is breaking in a little bit at the time -- sounds better all the time. I do like a little bass every now and then but for the most part I just like a well rounded stereo that sounds above average in every aspect. I don't need a stereo that satisfies the biggest audiophiles out there -- I just want one that sounds really good. This sub does it's job nicely but I seriously need to get to work on my mids/highs to complete the sound. I had ordered a JL 300/2v2 but cancelled the order when I found out about the HD900/5. If I don't get another Slash v2 series amp to stack on top of my 500/1v2 I'm going to get the HD900/5. An amp that powerful in such a small footprint is incredible and I would love to have one.

Thumbs up

I built this box using your design (Thank you for sharing) and dropped my 13tw5 in. I am using a Rockford 3sixty.2 on factory head to PDX 1000.1 (i know too much power but its what I had from previous system, and its gained down).

I also built out of 5/8 MDF, and have some notes to add. This box fits great under the rear seat of my 2010 Super Cab (extended). Slight over hang out of the bottom, about 2", but does not get in the way of seating.

The box NEEDS TO BE BRACED INTERNALLY. The 13TW5 is powerful and will flex 5/8 causing poor sound. I recommend a 2x4 cut on the angle and running down the center of the enclosure glued and screwed. I also treated the inside of the box with a liquid sound dampener to help add ragidity and help seal the wood.

I would add an additional 3/4 of an inch of height to the the legs to better lift the face of the sub away from the floor, sounds better and clearance isn't an issue. The Super Cab seat must be down when you slide the box into position to pick up extra clearence.

The sound of this set up is fantastic, lots of output, and clean. Has some trouble in the really low 30Hz ranges, but that's a result of the transfer function of the truck, not box or sub, roll your window down, problem solved .

Thanks again for sharing your design!

Glad someone used it! I put internal bracing in mine as well. Like you said it's pretty much required when using 5/8" MDF and a decent amount of power. As for the height I built the box as tall as possible so I'm assuming your 2010 supercab has more room under the seat than my 2008 supercrew. I put a grille on my sub which helps to an extent but I do wish it had a bit more room.

Sorry if im being thick here. Is the top left diagram looking at the side of the box from the passenger side? and the top right is the side from the drivers side correct? This is exactly what I was looking at doing for my '06 screw.

thanks for the post. i actually modified the desgin to go all the way across cutting a section out for the seat bracket and put a second tw5 under the passinger side as well. also made it stick out another 2" to get a little more air space. then put both the slash 450/4 and 500/1 behind the seat.
