I'll start it off,
I'm not wanting to get in to a active setup just yet, but am in need of building 2 low pass crossover for my rear midbass... want to low pass around 300 Hz.. maybe a little higher... HU will take care of the high pass at 80 Hz...
12 db slope min..
was playing with some crossover calc. online and can get caps and inductor coils from parts express....
anyone ever play with making custom X-over?? any tips

Hahahaha, fuggin right doggy
If your not wanting to get super perfect, then its pretty straight forward assuming you know the values of the caps and inductors you need, and how to wire them up. Other than that, pretty simple. If you get caught on something I can try to help you some
Should just go active though
Not really a whole lot here. Kinda put the stereo on hold for some other things. Im hoping I can get my stinkin box back this weekend, Im starting to get mad only having one Mag in the truck.
Havent done a thing with the soundstage that I want to change (to low), havent sound deadened anything (to lazy and to much money), havent looked at any different tweets (Cal25 metallics are still bothering me), still havent found/gotten a BLA for the HU....
Thats about all with me anyway.:o

I can get the values from online calc, thats no problem and wiring is a no brainer.... 12 db slope only uses 1 cap and 1 coil, coil wire in series on pos side, cap is stunted pos to neg after the coil... easy...
I have looked online a active crossovers, but can't find one with 6ch input and 8 ch output that will let me bandpass my rear midbass... or maybe I not reading the instuctions right.... just don't want to order a x-overs and be returning them or selling at a lost because I can't do what I want to do....

I think that what I would need, Right??

2 Rear ----------2 Rear Midbass Bandpass
2 Sub -----------2 Subwoofer Low Pass

Your running comps on a passive xover up front, midbasses in the rear, and sub right? Nothing else?
Why cant you use a combination of the xover on your HU and amp to bandpass the rear midbasses?
Have you ever seen those things that you put inline with your RCAs that act as a crossover? Stick em between your amp and RCAs, Im thinking they are called FMODs or something. Im not sure how well they work, might be something to look into if your looking for something cheap and temporary untill you go active ( I actually dont know the price, I think they were fairly cheap though )

Our famous "Question about Zapco amp thread". That was a beauty. I am in for a new one.
I am always tinkering with something here. The latest was a Carputer which is sitting on my desk in front of me. I had big hopes of putting a touch screen in my dash and that was it. Nothing else in the dash except a touch screen. Everything else would be run thru the touchscreen via a computer with all music files, movies, everything loaded on to the computer. After all the research, that seems to be a royal pain because I have to add every little thing to it. AM/FM, Sirius, GPS, Dual Zone, DVD, all of it has to be a seperate box plugged in to the computer. I am in the process of trying to sell the carputer but, if it does not sell, I may still tinker with it. There is some really cool stuff over at mp3car that people have done with computers in the car. If I do sell the carputer, I am also thinking about selling my W200 and going with something new with lots of bells and whistles. The Eclipse 6610 looks cool as does the Pioneer Z2. That's about it on my end.

As for the custom xovers, I have never messed with building my own. I have used the Fmods, they work pretty good. I usually stick with whatever passives come with the comps or use active crossovers.

It must be really rough running only one Mag

Going completely active seems like a great thing to do to get the most flexibility of your system, but of course it's more expensive, especially if you're using good components.
However, I do not know the full benefit of using a complete active system. Most good component sets have good sound engineers behind them that really work on the math and listen to the passive crossovers they build to get the most out of the drivers. In fact, most of the money spent on a good 3-way component system (or even a 2-way system) is on the engineering time. So why re-invent the wheel?
Instead of going active and spending all this money on amps, why not spend the money on a better set of components with the amp you already have? Or get a better amp?
I'm going as far as I am willing to go by using the bi-amp feature of my Morel Elate 3-ways and running a 4 channel amp to it... but the passive x-over will still handle the x-over points, at most I can control the gain difference between the midbass and highs.

Cool, Carputers are great and fun, but never seen one with the sound quility of a good HU... I have looked at a few designs for my truck and looking into puting a motorised screen in place of the pop out drink holder in the dash..
never got any parts or anything, just looked....
6610 is a great HU, I have a 6600...
