I put in some potentiometers (basically "bass *****") so I have full control of each subwoofer's output. They turned out pretty good. Here's a picture of how those turned out:

I just have to say that the 8 inch sub on top of the dash is so original and so slick. That's bold and I really like it, the install on those bass **** around your cigarette lighter are very nice also. Really nice work!

do you think you'll have any trouble with the vibrations caused by the sub or do you think you will be ok as far as the dash goes?

How much room is in the dash depends on how much time and energy you want to put into glassing tunnels in and around the ducting and wiring harnesses. I managed to get real close to .4 cuft. As for the "bow" in the middle, it's equal on both sides, and to be perfectly honest, driving around with it like that for a week, I'm not real happy with the look of it, as my girlfriend puts it, it looks like a big zit. And I'm starting to think she's right. I'll probably end up re-doing it next weekend, make it a flush-mount, but then I'll have to find some more airspace somehow to compensate.

It took me a minute to figure out what you were talking about, but yeah.. haha I'm in the rearview

Well, I won't know till I hook it all up, but I have a feeling it's gonna need some serious deadening treatment... I'll keep you guys posted...

Been following your progress on this stereo setup. Man, you do great work. Still really interested in those pods for my 05 supercrew. I've got a pair of Focal 165 V1 components just waiting for those pods!! Got some Focal 165ca1's for the rear and a JL 300/4 to drive them. Can't wait! I recently installed the JL (Stealth?)Box for the supercrew with their 10" and 300/2 bridged to drive it. It is the best sub package I've ever owned and it all looks completely factory. very incognito, and I like that. Someone on this list said something about all the engineering that goes into the JL sub boxes, and I'm here to tell you, it sounds so great, clean, and you don't hear that stupid 'doom-doom' at all outside the truck. No licence plate rattling like the factory sub did. Amazing.

I agree that a flush mount version would look quite a bit better. I guess its hard to tell from pictures, but it really doesnt look like you would loose a whole lot of volume. How much airspace are you wanting to have?

Well, ideally I'd like to get .45 cuft as that's what the sub manufacturer recommends.. But seeing as how it's almost impossible to get much more than .4 cubes... I dunno.. we'll see...

Right now I'm saving my pennies for the Alpine PXA-H701 so I can hopefully use time alignment and EQ'ing with an RTA to fix it so that it sounds best more in the drivers seat.

As far as volume, clarity and range: I'm very impressed. These components are the best I've ever heard. I hear stuff in music now I never knew existed. There is no break-up at higher volumes or listener fatigue either. The tweeters are clean and crisp, but not harsh. I'd highly recommend them!:
That's some pretty technical stuff for some of us. I won't ask you to break it all down for me, but I wonder: How do you think your pods/components would sound using the Driver Seat selection in the menu of the factory head unit? (I have the 6cd changer one. I'm assuming that's the one you had before you upgraded to the one in your pictures.) I'm the one with those 165 V1Focal component speakers. Also, now that you've had a month or so to listen to your pods since that post I'm refering to, I'm just wondering if you have any more opinions about them? Paint them yet?

Hmmmm...Infinite baffle?? or Aperiodic membrane?? Or are you trying to stay away from that?

Also, maybe I asked this already, but Im just curious if your pods are sealed up, or open back with the mids running IB?

I don't know how the sub would sound IB... I prolly shoulda tried that first before I started on the enclosure... (I HAD planned on doing a sealed enclosure) Well, since I'll be re-doing the part of the enclosure that you can see, maybe I'll pull out the rest of the enclosure and test it in a free air configuration.

As far as Aperiodic membrane... I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA how to go about designing one of those. I hear they can be a real PITA to tune and make work right.

The pod backs open into the stock speaker locations, which in turn opens into the door, and the door is "sealed" as much as possible. The whole frame of the pod is "lined" (for lack of a better word) with silicone to provide a seal to the door panel.

If I ever get the molds built, HOPEFULLY THIS WEEKEND! The urethane version of this pod will be completely open, from top to bottom and wont have stuff like MDF and resin all over the place. The backs of the one's installed in my vehicle look pretty scary!

I would recommend to anyone who buys a set that they get heavily deadened because they're going to resonate like hell if not. Since the urethane chemicals are SOOOO expensive, I think it will be easier and cheaper to make them thinner out of the urethane, and then reinforce them with resin and glass from the backside. I may just leave them alone and leave it up to the person who buys them to do that.. I mean after all, Q-forms are just thin plastic.
