(I have the 6cd changer one. I'm assuming that's the one you had before you upgraded to the one in your pictures.) I'm the one with those 165 V1Focal component speakers. Also, now that you've had a month or so to listen to your pods since that post I'm refering to, I'm just wondering if you have any more opinions about them? Paint them yet?

Well, as for the stock head unit you're referring to, yes, that IS the one I used to have before switching to the W200. I didn't think the stereo sounded good at all on anything BUT the drivers seat setting. Of course, I don't sit anywhere but the drivers seat! ahaha.

As for how they sound now as opposed to a month ago... well I think they sound great! The mids are past the break-in period, and the mid-bass has really opened up. Not so tight and slappy anymore. I think that compared to stock speaker locations, they are HANDS DOWN 100% better, but they don't image perfectly, well they do... but you have to be sitting with your head between the two front seats... which obviously isn't ideal. There are still time-alignment issues due to the fact that the driver is a foot from one set of speakers, and 4 feet from the other, and vice-versa for the passenger. It always sounds dominant out of the speakers you're sitting closest to. This is where sound-processors come into play, and technically (however, poorly) that's what your stock head unit is doing when you select "driver's seat."

And no, I haven't painted them yet.... There is no sense in painting them when I'm going to ruin them making molds for them... but it's all for the greater good right!

As far as Aperiodic membrane... I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA how to go about designing one of those. I hear they can be a real PITA to tune and make work right.

The pod backs open into the stock speaker locations, which in turn opens into the door, and the door is "sealed" as much as possible. The whole frame of the pod is "lined" (for lack of a better word) with silicone to provide a seal to the door panel.

If I ever get the molds built, HOPEFULLY THIS WEEKEND! The urethane version of this pod will be completely open, from top to bottom and wont have stuff like MDF and resin all over the place. The backs of the one's installed in my vehicle look pretty scary!

I would recommend to anyone who buys a set that they get heavily deadened because they're going to resonate like hell if not. Since the urethane chemicals are SOOOO expensive, I think it will be easier and cheaper to make them thinner out of the urethane, and then reinforce them with resin and glass from the backside. I may just leave them alone and leave it up to the person who buys them to do that.. I mean after all, Q-forms are just thin plastic.
Lol, yep, A. membranes can be a bit tricky. Nice if you can get them right though...

Thats a good idea to leave the ones you are selling open backed too, give people a little more freedom with how they want to run thier mids. I think leaving it up to the customers to reinforce/deaded them could be a bit of a turn off though. Maybe you can make it an option, charge a little extra for you to stiffen em up, or a little less if you just send them the urethane only and let them stiffen them up themselves...just an idea.

I think that's an excellent idea... I'll leave it up to each person how they want them done, and charge accordingly.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Blood,

Sorry Blood,

I can't give a real ETA. I can make one up if it helps!

I'd say.. By the end of November... "First rule of sales: Under promise and Over deliver!"

I've been spending waaaay too much time at work, and haven't got the funds or the time to get this started as promptly as I'd like. Plus, I'm still trying to figure out exactly how to pour the second half of the molds. Once I've got the molds, it's on! I can probably make 2 sets a day.

I'll keep you informed...

Don

no rush here so please take your time. some others on the forums may not agree but like i say quality over quantity. plus you don't want to make a mistake in the process and have to spend more money then what you need to get things rolling. also have i told you how nice those pods are i think i have o-well good luck and have fun

Blood,

First of all, nice install. Secondly, I was wondering where you got the custom door panels for your components. I'm in the process of gutting my interior to install 4 12" subs and four components for SPL competition. The door panels would be a nice touch, as they look really good in your vehicle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't mean to be a jerk, and I see it's your 1st post, so welcome, but you might want to spend an extra minute to read what's here......he MADE them, hence the multiple requests for molds

Looks good dmitt! Hows that center channel coming along? Any ideal of what you'll be charging to make these door pods? I've been considering making my own but since your in the process of making these I'll consider going with yours cause they look damn sharp.

The "dash sub" is coming along great. I'll upload pics tomorrow night. The paint is drying as I type this.

As for what I'll charge for the door pods... I'm thinking they're gonna be somewhere between 150 to 200 dollar range (a pair) depending on how much work I have to put into each set after they come out of the molds. But it could be less if I can find a place that sells the polyurethane mix cheaper...

As promised, here are some mediocre pictures of the in-dash sub...

You can't really tell from the pictures, but I cut a mirrored stainless trim ring for the top of the sub (you can see the reflection of raindrops on the windshield in the ring), so the sub matches the air vents in the truck which are also chrome and silver. I think it looks pretty good now that I re-did it, but I think that I need to do a bit more shaping of the corners so it better matches the panel shape in the front (which is not flat across btw!).

Before any of you ask... It sounds REALLY good! I still have a couple of small resonances inside the dash somewhere that I need to find, but other than that, it's solid.

Which brings up a question: Do any of you guys have problems with your back electric-slider window vibrating? I can't get it to stop... it's not like unbearable, but... it's me, and I'm picky!

Looking very nice Dmitt. I agree it could use a little tweaking to get it to fit even with the 'wood' piece; would look awsome if you can get it the same contour. The stainless ring is a cool idea too

How did you end up doing this enclosure? Sealed like the last one, or did you go IB? How much airspace did you end up loosing if its sealed?

Cant help on the back window, sorry

Yeah... I'll probably sand it down and re-do it AGAIN... I decided to take out the enclosure and run it IB. It actually sounds so good, I'm gonna leave it like that... for two reasons, 1) not much air circulation for the H/U in there with an enclosure sitting on top of it, and 2) it's so hard to get the top piece and the actual enclosure to seal it's just not worth it.
