Need any info on sub boxes for S/C
I was looking to see what kind of ideas everyone has used to get subs under that low low backseat. I was thinking of building my own boxes, cause I want to put 10's under there, maybe firing straight up, but thta dosn't look to favorable. What are my options to make a successful bass appearance? I don't want to use the MTX Thunderform CAUSE IT'S SOOOO EXPENSIVE! Plus, I want to use Fosgates! Please help me out everyone! Thanks! By the way, I am aware of the lifting the seat method, but from the pic's I've seen, it looks really stupid!
P.S. All ideas would be much more appreciated if they are told in much detail, how it fits, how it looks, which way it fires, etc. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I too think the "stealthboxes" (both JL audio and MTX) are way overpriced. The seat riser brackets that others have mentioned on the board, seem to be the way to go, although from the pictures on their website, they do look kinda nasty. My brackets are blue also as shown on their website, and that doesnt help the looks at all.. Blue bracket, with a black "riser" bracket underneath.
But, with the seat raised 4 inches, it will allow me to cram a nice pair of 10's plus my amp rack under there..
Otherwise im sure you could make an enclosure for a couple of 8's under there..

If you are looking for a slightly less expensive alternative to the MTX ThunderForms, you may want to look into the Qlogic enclosures. They are made by AI Research, their web site is http://www.airesearch.com. I have one installed on the small side of my back seat and it gives me enough base to fill the entire cab. The QLogic boxes hold one or two 8" woofers. I have the Fosgate Punch XLC in mine and it sounds great. In building my system, my main goal was clean crisp sound with fill from the bass. If you are looking for truck rattling bass, this may not be your best solution.

I do need tight bass, I listen to rock, not rap. I want to go with two Fosgate DVC 8's if I have to go with 8's, cause I want to make sure that if I have to settle for little, I'll settle for the best. I didn't know you could buy the JL box without the subs in it. Where did you find it? Thanks for the info.

Was also investigating sub enclosures, and found out that JL has 2 versions of their "stealthbox" - a traditional wood enclosure with 2 8" for around $500, and they also offer the same box in plastic, about $300. Before all the purists start throwing things at me
I did listen to both. The plastic box had a completely different character - not as "boomy", and a somewhat "tighter" sound. Not bad, just different. Let your ears be your guide...

Charles-I too am a Rockford Fanatic. So when I thought about getting a sub installed in my truck I went straight to the source.Rockford has their own website-and their own subwoofer enclosure. It looks just like the JL,but has 2 Punch XLC 8" subs in it.Price is around $350 at a local stereo shop. They said it was close in performance to the JL.(They actually push the JL over Rockford, even though the owner has all Rockford in his show car.)Also,JL offers a single 10" enclosure for the console in trucks with the captain's chairs. That way you can still fold down the back seat.
Cheapest that I've seen the RF box is online for $389 shipped. If that is the system I get, I will buy a Punch 500a2 amp which will put out 500x1, since I will need 400 x 1 it will certainly do the job, $316 plus $20 shipping.

I really liked the RF enclosure. My local car audio shop could get it for $325. The only problem (for me) is that it came unpainted. I bought the MTX Thunderform (gray) for $369 from Crutchfield. It came with 2 8" MTX 5000 subs. Fits snug under the rear seat and really pounds out the base with my 300x1 Soundstream. You can't go wrong either way.

Take off the small cushion of the rear seat that flips up behind the drivers seat. Build the enclosure there. I fit 3 JL 12's and can still fit two people with seatbelts (if wanted) in the back. Looks trick too.

If you're at all inclined to do so, it is possible to build a box to fit under the seat, without any modifications to it(the seat), and still have some sweet bass response. I built myself one for a single downward firing 10" eclipse sub. I work for an eclipse dealer and I made my truck the demo truck. I have a complete system from them and it sounds great. No one can understand how I'm getting sooo much bass from a single 10...even our installer! I just measured the opening under the seat and used the part from the passenger side over to the mounting bracket for the seat that's behind the driver. I got a box that's about .88 cubic feet and I stuffed it with a pound of polyfill. It's theft proof, since I bolted the seat down on top of it, and you don't even see it unless you are looking for it. The open area under the left side of the seat is the perfect place to mount your amps. This way, you lose no storage or people space and you can have a killer system. If I were you I'd atleast look into one 10. I'm sure that one 10" will outperform 2 8's. 8's just can't go low, neither can a 10, but for the small increase in air space and money, it's well worth it. I'm not a huge fan of Rockford's new stuff, they've cheapened their product and it's not what it used to be. I would recommend an MTX Thunder 5000 sub though. Incredible sub that uses little air space, is affordable, and is VERY efficient. It pounds with little power. A 10" retails for $109.00. Good luck with your system!

I just got finished with my new stereo install (new head unit, speakers, amps,10 disc changer.. the whole deal) it took 4 days, its been very hot here.. 90's here in Mich. And was able to put 2 Rockford Fosgate 8ohm subs under the rear seat, one on each side of the transmission hump, with my amp rack on top of the the hump. Each enclosure gets about .30 cubic feet, before stuffing each with 1/2 lb. of polyfill. The external dimensions of the enclosures are 6.5x10x14.5.
The bass response is incredible. Time well spent.

I too am wondering if you can still flip the rear seat?
A few uneducated questions - are your enclosures sealed? Do the subs fire downward? If so, did you leave some airspace under the sub by using longer sides?
Thanks for the info - sounds like you both did a teriffic job!
