F150online Is Moving!

Well, it was bound to happen. We've finally outgrown the "dedicated server" economic model.

I am about to sign a colocation agreement with a local Class 1 data center to provide rackspace and bandwidth for our own hardware supplying a 2 mbps connection.

For those that are technically inclined (or simply curious), F150online's new server will be a Dell Poweredge 2650 with dual Xeon 2.8Mhz processors, 1 GB of RAM, dual 36GB 15k SCSI drives in a RAID1 array.

I hope to begin the move before the end of the year, with the migration being complete by the first of the year. Please note that there will likely be some downtime during this period. I will keep everyone notified of expected periods of major downtime in this forum...

Thanks everyone for your support!

I'm just ribbing ya... glad to see that we're moving up in the world! You've got a great thing going and we're very appreciative for what you've allowed us to utilize for free.

Thanks Steve. Great job with the site.

I know it has been brought up before Steve, but I for one and interested in making a small financial donation via PayPal or something if you are interested, I'm sure this stuff is not cheap. I don't mean to offend you if you are not interested. What do you think?

Thank you for the offer, but it won't be necessary to donate. The advertising, Supporting Vendors and online store sales cover the operational costs of the site, which are actually going to be reduced by owning and controlling our own hardware. Of course, this means more of my time ensuring that everything is up and running, but that's ok. Maybe I'll pay myself a salary some day.
