Transmission information is not contained in the VIN. You have to get that code off the door tag.

Most likely, you have a 4R70W, TR code "U" behind a 4.6 if you have an automatic. You failed to provide that basic distinction.

What part of " You have to get that code off the door tag." did you miss?

You could also take a picture of the door tag and post it.

If your mechanic can't figure this one out, he's not much of a mechanic.

100% of the automatics behind a 2000 F150 with a 4.6 are 4R70W.

Look on the door tag. Look for "TR". The letter under the "TR" should be "U" which is a 4R70W. The pan is shaped like this:

The only automatic available in 2000 with a 4.6L was the 4R70W. It can't be anything else.

I did guess it was the 4R70W.. But I have been looking and everyone is asking if its a JA or FA. Was just trying to locate to expedite the repairs.
