2012 FX4 - Service Advancetrac
2012 ford f150 4×4 advancetrac alarm
I had the same problem with my 2011 FX4 and the dealer re-flashed/updated the software and within days the problem re-surfaced. I returned the truck to the dealership and the following day was told that the steering rack needed to be replaced, I was out of warranty, and they quoted me just over $2k for the repair. Needless to say, I picked up my truck and was livid... a $45k truck and this is the 2nd major issue in less than 4 months (first was sunroof tracks broke and the whole unit had to be replaced at $1600). I did some research on this issue and found it to be quite prevalent so I contacted Ford directly and voiced my concern with the issue and the cost to replace on a 3 yo truck. Ford agreed to cover all costs minus $500 to complete the repair. This is a known issue with the 2011 and newer trucks with the EPAS steering system, do not hesitate to contact Ford and ask for their help in completing the repair. This does two things, it eases the financial burden on you and makes Ford painfully aware of how big this issue is with their trucks. I love my truck but with each passing day, and repair, I am losing faith in the brand.

The dealer is Mt. Orab Ford, in Mt. Orab, Ohio
I don't know if you read my post but it explains my situation. I would appreciate any help. I have been calling the dealership everyday and they will not get back with me. Thank you.

2012 ford f150 4×4 advancetrac alarm
I have a 2012 ford f150 xtr. I took the truck to the ford dealership to have the newest recall taken care of which is to have the software updated for the transmission. The speed sensor. Anyway after they got done with it they called for me to pick it up. When I got in it and started it, immediately a service advancetrac warning appeared. I turned it off and walked back to the service counter to ask about it, they said they didn't know and would check it out. They hooked it up and they told me that the steering rack was bad and needed replaced. I have never had this warning or any problems until took it in for the recall. They told me to call the service manager the next day and tell him about it. So i had to drive home without turn signals. Any way I don't know what to do. And can't believe that it was fine and no problems until I took it to the ford dealership. I know I don't have $2,000 to pay for a repair. Anybody have any ideas? My truck has 66,800 miles on it. Please help!!!

Worst service ever!!!
I bought my first Ford after being a General Motors fan for many years in 2012
Because Ford builds their half ton in the USA and didn't take the bail out. In January of 2012 I bought a leftover 2011 f150 supercrew fx4. In June of the same year I took it in for a recall for the after cooler and they also did an update on the transmission. From that point further I complained about shifting issue with the truck and was led to believe this was a normal operation of the truck which discusscusted me after spending 47k on this truck new but went with it to prevent ruining my warranty. I purchase the truck at champion Ford in Owensboro KY and they have turned ever wrench on it and has nothing but factory parts on it like brakes and every bought new tire at 50k last summer. I had notice the advanced track light was coming on about a month ago and got a recall notice about the transmission shifting "surprise, surprise" so scheduled the work and had the look at what was causing the occasional light to come on. Drop the truck off on Friday and was call Saturday morning with some news that caught me off gaurd. At 66900 miles the angle steering sensor was bad and would have to spend $1800 to put a rack in pinion in the truck since it was out of warranty. So I paid the $92 diagnostic fee and pick the truck up. Look the parts up and it's 666.96 for a reman motorcraft and looks to be about 3-4hrs worth of work. So not only is the dealer trying to rip me a new one, Ford is putting out a product with what looks like a $1800 problem at 60k. I fully believe this should be a recall or Ford should stand behind their product. Looking for options before I find myself leaving the brand for good.

Update to my post on page 10. Ford Warranty has approved my dealer's appeal to cover my steering rack and pinion under it's Certified Pre Owned warranty (I'm 8 miles past my warranty when I brought it in for the appointment). I've been playing phone tag with Ford's Customer's Relations but at least for now it's only going to cost me another $100 deductible. Finger's crossed that my F150 will be as reliable as my 3 Yota's.
Service Advance Trac and no turn signals for the 3rd time
My 2012 F150 FX4 is now at the Ford Dealer for the 3rd time for servicing the advance trac. It was "repaired" in March 2016 for $450.38 and again in November 2016 for $184.53 and now presently in the shop in December 2016 with an estimated repair cost of $1800 for advance trac and turn signals where they now want to replace the steering angle sensor. I am requesting Ford Factory to get involved because it is obvious the local dealer service center is not able to fix this and they are learning with my dollars. This truck is beyond the factory and extended warranty while it seems Ford has a problem with this system.
Ford dealer agreed to cover the labor and diagnostic cost while I will pay for the steering angle sensor (which is the steering column) for ~$1200.

Advance trac prob fixed $$$$$$$$
Hey Guys
Just as an update on my 2012 FX4 5.0 HCU was the culprit..
The fix was gonna be close to $1500 . had several discussions with the service manager. ended up costing me approx $600
At least they gave me a break on the repair, but it should have been under warranty
Upon getting this repaired I traded it in on a new 2016 Lariat as I lost confidence in the 2012.
Hopefully I have better luck with this one
