The old Motorcraft 2bbl has an accelerator pump with a diaphram like a Holley, except it's mounted vertically on front. Likely it's ruptured and that''s the stalling.

Accelerator pump wouldn't cause a stall when coming to a stop - it would cause unresponsiveness when hitting the gas.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to rebuild the carb though.
