Carbureted and probably still has actual point ignition..
Carbureted, yes - it will be a 2 barrel Motorcraft but very few adjustments - just idle mixture screws, idle speed dashpot, electrically assisted automatic choke, and fast idle cam. Ignition is early electronic, not points, with mechanical flyweight and vacuum advance, base timing does need to be set. It should be good for 30k between tuneups.

BUY IT!!!!!!! It even has A/C!

If its as clean as you say it is, get it! I wouldn't even hesitate to buy it if it was me, and I don't even have room to park it anywhere.

It's hard to say how long you would be sitting on it, but honestly I don't feel it would be long. With a little work and TLC, you could make a little money on it. LMC Truck and National Parts Depot are a couple places you can get parts for it.

Even if you feel you aren't going to drive it much, its not going to cost you much to sit on it. Antique plates in MI are $30 and good for 10years, and then get insurance on it through Hagerty. I think the insurance on my Ranchero through them was only like $200 a year.

The 351 is a strong motor. I had a 351M in my 77 Ranchero, with a 4v carb and 131k miles. Thing was actually pretty quick considering it had 3.00 gears and literally was a tank.

Again, I would even hesitate given the opportunity to buy this.

Get it sorted out and you will find that you want to keep it.
If nothing else, you could drive it to work and keep miles off your new truck.

If you want to keep it, buy it.
If you don't plan to keep it, don't sink a bunch of money into it and expect to make much profit on it. Anything you do to change it from stock will devalue it to the next buyer.

And old F250 like that will easily haul whatever you can fit in it anywhere you want to go. They are about the easiest to work on vehicle ever made. I would recommend you keep it and drive it. If you don't plan to drive it, don't bother.

Yeah, once I saw the pic of the engine, I knew it was electronic... Plus all the other smog stuff on it too including a non adjustable carb..

I didn't think it was until 1979 when they really started with the smog stuff... I Was going by working on my buddies 1975 F150 that had a 360 in it, but we dropped a 390 from a 1969 T-Bird into it! Did that about 25 years ago and he sold it about a year later for more than he put into it.. 390 included!

The hood paint looks a little rough... But I think they just call it "provenance"

My goal to start wasn't to sink a bunch of money into it. I want to leave it all original. The only thing I had planned was to put new tires on the front and to fix that hole in the floorboard.

I have a commute of about an hour and some change. I don't think the 250 would be my most practical for my drive. I'm getting around 23 or so MPGs in my EcoBoost right now and I couldn't be happier, plus I've got 4X4 for these back country roads.

I had planned to keep her as just a second hand truck to have some fun with, but I honestly don't even think I would have time to enjoy it. That's why if I follow through, I feel like I'll just end up selling her. I hate to sound greedy, because I'm not at all, but could anyone give me a ballpark price of what they think I could get if I sold the truck as is?

Chris

would make a nice weekend warrior. If you've got space to park it go buy this thing like yesterday.

You can drive it and enjoy it on the weekends. You never know when someone will walk up to you at a gas station or walmart and offer you a cash deal on the truck even if its not listed as "for sale"

If you're just gonna sell it don't bother. There's not enough profit to be made to be worth the trouble. You could lose your *** on it if nobody wants to buy it from you. Economy is not that good right now.

I'm jealous. If it was a 4x4 it would be a great build for a lifted truck. Of course for the guy who plans on keeping her.

Location is where it's really going to make or break you on it... Thinking about it more, if you don't want it for yourself, I'd pass on it....

You might be able to get $2000 for it?? Then again, maybe not??

If it was a 4x4, you'd have no problem reselling it... Don't see many 4x4's from that era..

That's why my buddies '75 F150 sold so fast 24 years or so ago.. It was a 4x4 with solid axles and a 390 in it!

Anyway, nice find all the same, but if you aren't turning over rigs for a living... It's probably not going to be worth your time or $$

The nice part of this is the truck is "almost" intact. And she's a great project because you can do stuff One piece at a time like Mr.Cash said

Thanks gang! It was a proud day bringin' her home. Especially since I made it back in one piece with that triple-axle. Definitely wasn't expecting my friend to leave me that trailer.

Cleaned the truck out yesterday and started to do little things like fix bulbs and squeaks, etc. Truck was on empty when I brought it home. Put some fresh gas in and she stalled every time I brought it to a stop on a short drive I took. Been letting it idle now for 20 minutes every day. Still learning this all as I go!

Thanks again for all the help!

Chris
