94 F150 E4OD Swap for 97 E250SD E4OD

I recently became the new owner of a 1994 F150 300 inline 6 with an E4OD transmission. The transmission was shot when I bought the truck. I have come across an E4OD in an E250 Super Duty with a 5.4 Liter V8 engine. Is this transmission compatible with my 94 F510? I believe the fit up is OK but I am not sure if it's a clean switch without some modifications? If it turnout to be something major then I will continue my search. Any knowledge and wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Nope, different bellhousing patterns. I think ANY other E4OD will work EXCEPT from a Triton 5.4 or a diesel. This would be a 302, 351, or a 460.

EDIT: Not sure about the 460.

There are also some electrical differences for various years. A 94 will be a bolt on interchange with anything 94 down. 95s are different and 96-97 are very different.

Problem is that the pre-95 E4ODs are more fragile mechanically than the 95-up versions

I don't think the fragility is much of an issue with an I6 unless you are trying to work the thing past its capabilities.

When they use the same transmission behind a 460 and a diesel, I really don't see where it would be a big issue with a I6 or a 302........

The pre-95 E4OD had problems behind ALL of the above engines. It received upgrades every year until Ford finally got it right in 95. There were further upgrades to the successor 4R100 in later years but all 94-down versions had issues.

There's a list of the upgrades here:

the only issue i would see with a 4.9 and a 5.0 is the 4.9 has more torque and is meant for workin hard im not too sure about the e4od but i do know that the one from the 5.4 wont work
