Any body converted to the "4-bolt" cover steering box?

Just wondering if anybody has put the 97-up 4 bolt cover steering box on a 80-96. In late 97 some of the last F-250HD and F-350's used the new desing box. It makes a huge difference in the feel of the vehicle.
I did it on my 95 Bronco and nobody could believe how good it drove. All the looseness is gone that is so common on the older 2-bolt design. What you need is a box from a late 97 HD, 99 Super Duty before 3-99, or a 97-up E-150 and power steering lines for the late 97 HD's.

That sounds great! My brother has a 2002 x-cab w/5.4 and it has great steering feel. My 94 is so soft it should be on a caddy. I've heard that if you do extreme off-roading w/slow sharp turns and oversize tires that you should upgrade your box anyway. I might have to think about this.

Thanks for the info!

It will just drop right in? Sounds too easy.

Take care,

Yes, total drop-in if you use the correct lines. With a 4.9 you may have to modify the new pressure line, but it will close. The 5.0, 5.8, 7.3, and 7.5 have direct fit lines available!

Great tip! I hate the dead spot on my truck. You don't have a part number for the 4 bolt box do you? I'll see how much the dealer wants before I scrounge around the junkyards. How much does you dealership charge for one of these?

thanks,
scott

The part # for the box is F7UZ-3504-GBRM they list at $301.00 with a $150.00 core charge. I would just go to a late model yard and get one from a van (97-02 E150) or early production F250SD (99). The hose #'s are F7TZ3A719AA (pressure) F7TZ3A713BB (return) for the 5.0 and 5.8. The 7.5 is F7TZ3A719BA (pressure) and F7TZ3A713AB (return).

I know Im bringing this back from the dead but this looks like very interesting mod to me. The box that is called out here is for a 8500+GVW truck. Is there any issues with useing the heavier rated box? I want to install this on my 94 Lightning.
