Gear Question
I talked to a local Mustang shop today and they recommended changing the rear gears out to something like 4.11's. What kind of changes can I expect will this new gear ratio. Fuel mileage, Times, ect. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Fadex,
What kind of truck do you have? What gears are in it?
What size engine do you have?
Do you have an OD trans?
What size tires do you have now?

Fadex,
I take that you are looking for better 1/4 mile times.
Since you have an overdrive trans you could go with taller (numerically higher) gears.
I would recommend 4.10's
You will definitely notice the difference in your 0-60 mph times.
As far as gas/mileage it's gonna get pretty crappy.
That 302 has alot of potential, just give it a chance.
I hope this helps.

Well, I have had to put the mods on hold for right now. I have a clicking sound coming from the right (passenger side) of the engine. I think (hope) it is a small exhaust leak from the header gasket area. Sounds like a sewing machine on steroids, but no loss of power and gas mileage is improving if anything. Any other ideas?

Yes,i think it might be an emissions sensor.I can't think of the proper name right now.If your standing in front of your truck looking at your throttle body it should be to the left of it (witin 6-8 inches)it looks just like a "C" battery just alittle smaller w/ an electric connection.I'm sure someone here knows the proper name for this part.
I hope this helps!

Thanks for the idea! I'll go check my chiltons and see if I can match it up.

I looked to the left of the throttle bodies and the only thing I see is the EVP senson on the EGR valve. Neither of them look like a battery. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. Can you give me better directions of where to look. This noise is driving me crazy!!!!!

That sensor is right in that area.Damn i wish i knew the proper name.I tried looking in my chiltons manual for my vehicle. No luck!
Ok,lets break this down.Your sure the clicking is coming from pass side of engine?
Is it making the sound at a certain RPM or just at idle?Is it loud like a valve tap?
We'll figure this out.

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.
I am positive it is coming from the passenger side. I can hear it from idle all the way up as long as my foot is pressing the gas pedal or the engine is under a load (like going up a hill) and it does sound like a valve tap or click. But on the plus side I think my mileage has went up quite a bit. 80 miles on 1/4 tank. It almost worries me that my mileage is that good. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

No the component is up by the throttle body.It has a wire plug and a vacume fitting.
Fadex,
Have you changed the exhaust in any way recently? This could be the problem.

The hedders were installed and the cats replaced about three months ago.
Is the part you are talking about the bypass valve on the throttle bodies that allows the engine to idle?

I finally found the problem.. I thought I had blew out the header gasket. Wrong..
The connection between the header and Y-pipe on the passenger side had come loose and the gasket was shreadded. New gasket. Tightened the bolts and problem solved..
