You mean 4.9 liter (300 cubic inch) inline 6?

What you have is a true truck engine. No matter what you do, it's slow as snails but will pull anything and go anywhere. It's all low end torque, it essentially has no horsepower. It will also run forever with proper care.

To post pics, you have to either start a photo gallery (link at top) or get a photo hosting account somewhere that allows offsite linking.

You hit the nail on the head there!!!

With 1.5" of lift in the front you should be able to run 33's, but you will have to do some trimming the the front bumper. Atleast I did and the front of my truck is lifted 2.5", check my gallery for pics of the truck, but I don't think I have any of the bumper trimming. The motor will be able to pull 33's without a problem, the problem will be that if you tow or haul anything heavy. I was running 3.08 gears with 33's, it was ok for daily driving but I couldn't tow anything. Now I am regeared to 4.10's with a Detroit Locker in the rear and a Auburn posi up front.

This is a great forum with great people that are always willing to help answer any questions that you may have!

Which transmission and gears do you have? If you don't know, just post the tranny and axle codes from the door jamb sticker. 4x2 or 4x4?

Howdy and welcome to the basement! These trucks are many times better and more rugged than any new piece of plastic on the dealer lots these days.

The mighty 4.9L 300, will out-torque a 302 or 351w any day of the week. To borrow Steve's line, "Walk softly and carry a big six."

What trans ya got? E4OD four speed auto, T-18 four speed stick, or the M5OD-R2 five speed stick?

Post yer axle code from the door jam sticker.

You can run 33" tall tires stock, they will rub on the radius arms at full lock, and if you have 10" wide wheels they will contact the bumper. You can look into leveling coils/springs to solve that.

The 300 is a dog as far as HP goes but a tourque monster, like adrian said, they will pull a barn down

Welcome n00b! Sounds like you've got a great truck there. For posting photos, I use Photobucket. It's very easy to setup and use, and it's free. Once you have pics in a photobucket album, you can link them to any forum.

Which 33's are you looking at? I had a 4" lift, and some cheap 33's on my truck when I bought it, and they cleared everything just fine. But when I replaced them with the BFG mud terrains, they rubbed. It might have been because of the aggressive tread/side lugs. Just something to think about if you don't plan on lifting.

I run 33x10.50 15 BFG All Terrains on my 94 5.8L stock wheels(7.5 wide Aluminum ones), no lift, no trimming, no rubbing that I know of(i haven't noticed any radius arm rubbing, I'll have to check for rubbed paint). IMO they look better than 33x12.50's without flares.
