Since EGR valves don't go bad very often....

Assuming a P0402 code was what you've been getting, replace the DPFE sensor. Return the EVR valve if the store's personnel "diagnosed" it for you and reinstall you old one.

This is important: Go to your Ford dealer and buy the latest revision part for your truck.

If your truck is within 5/60, it may be have additional special extended warranty coverage.

It is also highly recommended to fully identify your vehicle by year, engine, transmission, and drivetrain when asking a technical question. If you create a signature with this info in it, you'll only have to enter it once. This information is often useful in making suggestions since certain common problems are often reported.

Yup, I've never seen an EGR fail itself. Had several of these guys however go. DPFE or the vacuum controller. 30bucks at ford.

That one is for a 302

well i got the egr valve through a "hookup" at a local auto parts store so i am out no money on that...so you guys are saying that it is possibly the DPFE sensor? can this be bought at an auto parts store or dealer only?

what other problems will this sensor cause?

also on another note....what are you 302/351 guys doing for cold air kits?
is there a cheap one? or just a k&n panel replacement filter?

Still need to know your year and engine...

I've only found it at the dealer.

Adrian,

That happens to be the EVR solenoid you're holding there. I might cause a P0402, however, a little test can be performed to see if it's leaking or if he has a faulty DPFE sensor.

Just check for vacuum at the EGR valve when the truck is parked. It should not have any. If it does, the EVR solenoid is probably leaking.
