E is the E4OD
U is the 4R70w

You just need a 94-95-96 gauge cluster with a tach and similar miles (if that matters to you) and just swap it in. Plug and play and your good to go.

Oh ok, pretty simple. Buy the tach, hook up a ground, a power, a dashlight supply, and we can look up your tach signal wire.

I was going to do that also, but there's nowhere to mount it on my dash that won't get in the way and I'm lazy when it comes to that sort of thing.

You could "fake it" and get one of those digital ones where you wrap a wire around any of the plug wies, wire in power and you're all set. They're real common in powersports, and are fairly accurate as long as you insulate it's signal wire properly(so it doesn't pick up stray emissions from other cylinder wires). Cheaper ones are pre-set for one engine pattern, better ones let you program it in. Tiny-Tach comes to mind, but there are others more made for cars.

May I suggest old school hood mounting for those without room for an after market tach?

The pillar mounts are a cheap and easy option if you're ok with a smaller digital tach:

Here's a Ford Racing pillar mount

if you get the sunpro like i did you just run the black wire to a chassis ground, the green wire to the (-) wire on the coil, the red wire to a power when the key is turned to on and the white wire goes to your intrament panel so the tach lights up with your dash, the easyest way to do this is just to run it to the pink 4amp fuse in the fuse box so it dims with the other gauges.

Sorry if I'm being n00bish, but where is the coil on a '93 f-150? I'm used to seeing it right above the mechanical, camshaft driven distributor(motorheads everywhere go EEK!) on my Beetle motor. Wiring all the other stuff was easy, it was just that signal wire that I figured would be a hassle.

Someone else mentioned that the green signal wire has to splice off some random wire in the car's ECU to work properly. I had that exact same tach(with a blue line) in my sandrail, until one day it filled with smoke and didn't work anymore.

Follow the center wire from your distributor and you can't miss it...

And if you want to be absolutely positive that you've got the right wire, make sure the engine is running when you trace it back

Coil should be on the firewall right next to the engine on the drivers side I believe. It isn't very impressive looking.
