Two questions on Haynes procedures for 1991 5.0 F150

According to Haynes, to remove the oil pan you have to first remove the upper intake manifold. Is it possible/reasonable to remove the pan without having to take off the intake manifold?

Again, according to Haynes, to remove the engine you have to first disconnect the AC lines and discharge the AC system -- is there any way to just unbolt the AC compressor and hang it out of the way without discharging the AC system?

i don't understand how the upper half of the intake has to be removed just to remove the oil pan.

but no. you can do as you stated. just hang that stuff out of the way.

but what exactly are you planning on doing?

Probably becuase wit the intake on when you jack the engine up that far there will be clearance issues with the firewall.

if you are just replacing the gasket all you need to do is
1. unbolt the motor mounts
2. jack the engine up just before that intake "plenum" hits the firewall
3. unbolt the pan and let it drop that few inches
4.then remove the old gasket and slip the new one in

hope this helps have fun

Correct. The gasket is fairly easy to do, unless its been there a while and you have to scrape off the old one, which may require taking the pan out.

It depends on the gasket type i have a 94 5.0 and the gasket is rubber and those wont cake on like the other type but with a 91 you might to need check which type gasket you have. With the rubber one i think the most you'll have to do is wipe it clean

You will either have a 4 peice cork gasket or the one peice rubber style. I have the rubber one, much easier to deal with.
