Cool

Both are 4x4s, with 4" Rancho's, and 3" body lifts. That was at Devils Den, in San Antonio, Texas. This all happened at out last big rally.

Alright, here we go…..wait, let me climb up on the soap box. I don’t mean to offend or start a fight here or anything like that but what is the purpose of this post? I mean really, what is it to you if us lowly 2wd owners want to make our coveted trucks a little more fun for on and off the road? Why put bigger tires and lifts on 2wd trucks? Same reason some of the 4wd owners want to LOWER their trucks. Same reason some people feel the need to turn their vehicles into rolling boom boxes. Same reason some people want to put jet engines in their rice burning cars. Same reason people want to supercharge their V6’s (including me). Same reason some people want to put Navigator front ends on their F150s. BECAUSE WE CAN!! There is nothing wrong with people spending their hard earned money making their ride into something better than it’s original design allowed it to be.

I personally need a vehicle that can handle mild to moderate off road conditions because I live in a VERY rural area. But I work in downtown Indianapolis and drive 65 miles a day to get there. I also tow a boat, utility trailer and occasionally load the “Big Blue Ox” full of lumber or firewood or whatever. The initial purchase cost, fuel costs, maintenance costs and general worries of a 4wd do not jive with my income. My brother in law has a 4.6 4wd F150 and he has a nightmare trying to keep up on all the stuff that continuously goes out on it. And I don’t mean design flaws or anything like that, just general maintenance stuff. Granted he has over 150,000 miles on it but I plan to keep my truck at least that long as well. He doesn't have a choice because he needs a 4wd for work. I push a mouse all day.

As far as off roading is concerned, no I will NEVER attempt to take my 2wd through a mud hole. But I don’t bat an eye at snow or any of the back “roads” in my area anymore. These are the same sucky roads that I continuously got stuck in my Ranger a couple years ago. And all I have done is put slightly larger AT tires on my truck. If I ever get to a point where I can afford the other off road goodies then you better believe I will do it. And don’t get me wrong, I LOVE 4wd vehicles and will probably own one someday when I can afford ALL aspects of owning one. As for now, I have a perfect fit.

I also have friends that have lifted 2wd trucks that have never been off pavement in their lives. Who cares?! That is their truck and they can do with it as they please. Nobody pays their payments but them. Some of them look pretty damn good!!! And I don’t think they should be made inferior just because only 2 of their wheels push.

Like I said before, I don’t mean to offend anyone but I have been through this all before and it never ceases to irritate me. If you are a 4wd owner, consider it as a compliment that someone is attempting to look like your big beautiful truck. Because we all have one thing in common and that is our love for our F150s.

Getting off the soap box now. Dare to be different and have a good day!

OneBadCrewX4,

I went out there with them, got pretty nasty too. Pulled out a Z-71, and got stuck gettin him out, then winched out, or attempted to anyway, a Suburban. What a great day. Nobody in our F150 group had a problem with that hill or pretty much anything, they are just badass.

Here's me about to climb the hill:

This truck can take mud with the best of them:

OK, I thought it was the Den, That's where my club goes out to just about every time. And that hill in those 4 pics above is the same one I tried, unsuccesfully to climb, many times now. Other hills out there aren't too bad. Most I just haven't even tried. A couple of them I managed to get up after strugling several times. For me that's the biggest difference when I offroad. The 4wds can get up hills and I have to find a way around. But I still haven't gotten stuck out there the last couple of times I went. Cool pics mudder!

Thumbs up

I have a 4wd, but if I couldn't afford it, I would still have an F150, whether it was 4 or 2wd, and I would be happy either way. The 4-wheeling trails around here are some monsters, stuff that I wouldn't even attempt in a 2wd, even if it was lifted, because the mountains are just too steep. There is nothing wrong with 2wd trucks, if that's your thing, but I am gonna have to agree with the 2wd SUV thing, there's just no call for that. They're not really that much cheaper than the 4wd, (less than 1000 dollars every time I have checked) and it's just not right. I mean, what's the point? I know that they don't make a good variety of station wagons like they used to, but dang. Now, everybody out there that has a 2wd SUV, don't go getting mad at me, I say to each their own, and so what if other people don't like it. As for tires, I know that the Goodyears are just not that good, the rubber is too soft, well, for the really rocky and hard ground that we have here anyway. I have tried a lot of different tires, Remington Wide Brute are ok, they get decent traction in the mud, but after about 5000 miles they start to leak air, and you have to refill them about every two weeks, at least I did. The Pirelli Scorpions are okay, but they wear out quicker than anything but the Goodyear (I have tried the Goodyear Wrangler RTS, Wrangler AP, and the Wrangler ATX, all with the same results). The BF Goodrich Long Trails are great, but it's hard to find a set that looks good, most of them don't have the RWL, and that just ain't cool. The Pirellis had the best grip of any of them, I'd say though. Anyway, everybody just be happy, and smile, because we have the best trucks in the world, except for the club that Mudder is in *LOL*, those are nice trucks, mudder, I would love to get to Texas and try out some of that terrain sometime. Or, if y'all are ever in Virginia and you need to find a good place, let me know, we have a million trails.

Howdy!

4x4 Guy,

Dude, my ride isn't a 4x4. It's low, wide, and fast. It looks good with sparkly, polished stainless steel and billet aluminum everywhere. I'm not about to splash that with mud bro!

Better wear shades.. cause you'll be blinded looking at it!

Have a nice day.

------------------
My ride:

Basics:
- '99 XLT F-150

Under hood and back:
- Ram air (Don't ask me how )
- AiRaid intake
- Flowmaster DF 50 Series
- 24x3.5" Stainless steel slashed tips (Yes! Solid polished SS, no cheesy chrome-plated)
...

Outside:
- Precision polished billet grille and plate holders
- American Racing 17x8s polished Pythons (Flushed front AND back)
- Goodyear.. something tires (Expensive is all I know. LOL. No Firestone firecrackers for me either)
- Rhino liner
- Ford nerf bars
- Ford bed rails
...

Inside:
- My girlfriend!
...

Fun stuff:
- Dual sirens Black Widow alarm system/keyless entry (Enough decibels to go deaf in a garage )
- Custom driving lights (Just a cool blue)
- 2 High-Watt lights behind grille (For people who cut me off )
- Dual horns (For people who, again, cut me off)
- Dual wheel locks (So I won't be driving home on bricks!)
- Spare wheel lock (So I won't have to use a brick as a spare )
...

Best of all:
- Texas A&M University aTm front plate! Gig'em Aggies!!

IMHO I like my 4x4's lifted and my 2wd's lowered not on the ground mind you but just enough to give it a good sport stance. I live in a rural area and 4x4 is not an option you need to have it or at least one vehicle in the family needs it for emergencies. I personally like the comfort and security knowing that I can go almost anywhere I want and if not I will pull my 4x4 atv (yes even our four-wheeler is push button 4wd)and keep on going.

Blue Ox, I like your phrase because we can. I personally like 4X4's, but whatever somebody drives and does to it as in modifications, they better just get out and enjoy it. I love my truck and it sees mud every Saturday, but I also wash it twice a week to keep it bright and clean.

Lol, what was that comment that I think was supposed to say, if you have a diesel you can't get stuck, all about. Deisels are heavy sobs and sink quicker than chevy's. About that 1998 Ranger with the 4.3 Diesel...
