long post about trip with a sad ending lots of pics
well me and 8 of my buddys went on a spur of the moment trip out to ocatillo wels offroad park to find some mud it has been raining so it wasnt hard, first off list of vehicles, 99 dodge lifted 35 super swamper trxus, 88 chevy blazer and 91 chevy blazer stock with 33 bfg at, and lifted 93 S10 with 33" x terains, and my lifted beast, well all goes well we explore the desert go on a 13 mile trail thru a bunch of private property get attacked by dogs having a bunch of fun, found a couple of big mud holes most of the mud holes were easy i could crawl thru them in 2 wheel drive they were maybe 2 feet of muddy water and hard packed under that so easy, the dodge developed a miss so we let it dry out alittle no problem, had alot of fun just going around all the sand and rocks, the problems didnt start untill we found this one mud hole right on the side of the road, alot of people had gone thru it so it was nice and soupy real mud with some big ruts the dodge and my could make it thru no problem the S10 kept getting high centered kept having to pull him out, well it started getting dark so we all went back to camp to start the real drinking, at around 10 the S10 went to get more beer about a ten mile drive to the store, he never came back looked for him and looked for him nothing, the driver wakes me up at 6 in the mourning saing he is stuck bad, him and the other guy that was with him are coverd in mud from head to toe, they hitched a ride back to camp well i told him to get in my bed and i would pull him out, he shows me were he got stuck, a big mud hole that was real soup like chocolate pudding 2-3 feet deep real bad and his S10 is in the middle of it past the doors, high centerd i back up to it i could kick his tire and all the tires would rotate that is how badly highcenterd he was in the mud, well i try for 2 hours to pull him out and i had to do something i dont like to do becuase it breaks stuff but i would leave around 5 feet of slack in the chains and just go all out, riped off his rear bumper so i had to go at it from the front tow hooks, he was stuck so bad it would barely budge him my front end was coming off the ground and hitting hard, well i got him out to make a long story short at the cost of my front pass side axle, the front end hoping in 4 low was to much for it and it let go well here are some pics of the trip enjoy

it was fun the worst part was cutting the end off the half shaft so i could put it back in the hub and drive home safely took an hour takeing turns with a hacksaw with a dull blade, made it home safe you live and learn tried to save time and pull my buddy out myself when all i had to do was go back to camp and get a second vehicle to tandem pull him out wont make the same mistake twice

Good story, but the ending sucked major *****. Relpacing a half shaft out in the mud/dirt had to suck. One question, did the grease from the CV joint dry out the skin on your hands? The reason that I ask is that a friend and myself changed out the CV joints on my mom's Honda and it ate us up. I was curious if this was a just a Honda thing.

yanking isnt a good idea
i dont mean to rain on your parade, but in general, leaving
slack to take off with a lunge is bound to be an expensive
way to pull folks out. both for you and them.
if you cant afford a winch, then a towstrap of quality(as
suggested previously) is a better approach. then a slow
steady pull is best...
just thinking to save you$$$
