topic is hard to explain so look inside(clutch)

the clutch pedal now has a 3/4 to 1 1/2 that it has to be pushed in before you actually disingage/reingauge the clutch. i have also noticed a whine that i cant seem to find in near trans area( i have the 5-speed) can anyone tell me what to do or anything. any help will help

I had a '97/V6 that did the same things after a few thousand miles. If that is so I wouldn't worry about it, sounds normal.

Bleed the slave cylinder. It might be a sign that the slave has devoleped a leak and is allowing air in the system. Check for leaks. Mine is doing the same. I have bleed it twice now and the problem always comes back. The new part is relatively cheap, but the labour is a killer.

that shoud be covered by warratry right? i still have about 7k left on it.

The whine could be the throwout bearing rubbing the pressure plate. Does it go away when you engage the clutch? Sometimes you just need to make an adjustment on the clutch linkage to fix the problem.

It shouild be covered. There should be something there about the problem in their files, it is more common than you may think.

Unfortunately this system has no manual adjustment, it is a hydraulic system. The clutch pressure has a self adjusting mechanism that compensates for clutch wear. It either works or it doesn't. And when it doesn't then $$$$$. If you are fortunate to still have warranty the repare should be covered.

yeah the whine goes away when i push in the clutch. i can really only hear it whine when im going through a drive threw(sp) at a fast food restaurant. now i need to find a time that i can take it to them. i always plan a few days when i take it to a dealer to get it fixed. is it something that i need to do soon? will i cet worse and cause more problems? thanks

It will eventually wear out the pressure plate but it's not a real emergency that is going to strand you on the side of the road. This is of course assuming that there are no other problems except for the bearing rubbing.

Do you mean that the clutch fully disengages with a mere 3/4 to 1 1/2 " travel (from the top)?

Is there any discernable 'free-play' (where the clutch pedal moves without any resistance of the clutch spring)?

Is your clutch able to maintain the load in all gears (does it slip)?

Does it engage smoothly and predictably?

If yes to all questions, then your clutch appears to be working perfectly.

yes to all questions but i think my concern now is the whine noise that has come up

Folks, I had this problem on my new 2001 V6. The dealer bled the master and slave cylinder. This did not help. The next dealer replaced the master and slave cylinder. Better but still too much free play ( about 1-1/2 inches). The next saturday I bled the system myself(the wife assisted). Took my time, connected the hose and container, opened bleed screw and pressed in pedal, closed screw and let up pedal. Did this about 10 times. Air bubbles came out at about the 3rd cycle. This bled the master cylinder. Now with hose connected I pushed in pedal and then opened the bleed screw, waited for fluid to come out and closed the bleed screw. I did this about 10 times. This bleeds the slave cylinder. Now the clutch pedal feels perfect. I have about 5,000 miles since I bled the system and no return of the problem
