Is Amsoil worth the price?

I'm thinking about getting a low mileage 199 f150 4.2. I was thinking about going with amsoil oil. Is it really worth the price?

Thanks Brian

It all depends on how many miles you're going to put on in a year....that's what you'd have to factor in.....

Nope. It's good oil and it meets the SN standards but it is not worth the coin. The lack of any truly independent testing also calls into question the legitimatcy of the claims made by the company. And lastly if it's so great then why don't race teams and car makers use it? Mercedes, Holden, Cadillac, Porshe, the Vette, Viper and others I can't remember all begin their life on Mobil 1. http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...Mercedes%20AMG

I have been running with Amsoil almost since new (07), but I think I will switch back to Mobile 1 EP w/ Mobile one filter on the next change. I want good oil, however, I only drive 10,000 mi per year or less, so I am always changing by time constraints anyway, so, why pay the extra and I don't have to wait for UPS..(I'm thinking out loud again..lol)

I with twinskrewd. I have always used Mobil 1 synthetic no matter what its for and the factory motorcraft filters every 3500 miles.

I have been using the K&N and Mobil 1 filters. Troyer recommends the K&N. But after some reading it seems the Mobil 1 filters down to 10 Micron which is better than the K&N. It's so hard to find reliable proof any more. I have also heard good things about the Motorcraft filters. I don't think you can go worng with any of the 3.

I bet you mail order a ton of stuff that you don't mind waiting on the UPS guy for, why is oil such an issue? What's the longest you've ever had to wait on an Amsoil order...2, maybe 3 days?

Which oil are you using? What does M1 EP cost per quart? XL 5W20 is $7.65 or $5.85 if you're a preferred customer and is good for 10,000 miles. I won't recommend anything as you have your own tolerance level, but I go based on mileage with no regards for time...but that's just me.

As far as being "Factory Fill" in all these vehicles, do you think the manufacturer went out and begged M1 to let them use their product or do you suppose M1 approached the manufacturer and made a deal? Yes, I know just like from that other thread I sound like some brainwashed Amsoil supporter, but which of these do you think is honestly most likely? I get hammered for being brainwashed and supporting Amsoils sales tacticts, but what do you call the whole Factory Fill thing? It's the exact same thing...a sales tactic that has worked for M1.

Wtf??? You send a bunch of links to Amsoil sponsorships of racing as some sort of proof? Lol. Not gonna work. My post was in reference to racers and engine builders who choose oils for a reason. Tour some race shops, go to the oval tracks, drag strips, your local engine shops etc. No ones pissing money away on Amsoil. I don't care who Amsoil pays to use there crap or wear there stickers. You just got through accusing Mobil 1 of making a deal with manufacturers to push there product then sent all those links showing Amsoil doing that very thing lmao!!! Definite proof of brain washing right there.

As for the car manufacturers. They selected the best oil for certain ones. Dodge doesn't start every engine with Mobil 1. Just the Viper. Same with the other manufacturers. Certain vehicles get it and others don't. They choose the oils for the motors based upon the oils abilities to meet the needs of the motors. Mobil 1 is a great oil as is Motorcraft Semi Syn and many others. Seeing as how I can buy 5qts of them for a maximum of $23 and I can get it when I want it I'll stick with them.

OP: I would use motorcraft and call it a day

People will argue this topic until their fingers bleed, seems to be a sensitive subject for some reason! Lol
No offense guys, just a little humor to lighten the mood here!

Don't like this when these threads become an oil ****'n contest...

Oh come on! The only ones who get sensitive are the amsoil guys. I know I personally could give a crap. People will use what they will use. But it sure is fun to pick with them. Kinda like the post above with regards to Amsoil being first in synthetics. They claim to be first since 1972 and bash Mobil 1 for using the title but had none of there snake oil certified till the late 90's. I find it amusing.
