Super charger sound

Hello all, I have a 06 4x4 with the 5.4. Some one pointed out to me that my truck makes a whining noise at higher rpms when the truck is in lower gears kind of like a super charger. It does it no matter if it is in gear or not you can also make it do it in park if you hit a certain rpm. Some one suggested that it might need power stearing fluid or a pump. I checked the fluid level and it's fine. If its the pump wouldn't I start to see leaks or notice something wrong in the stearing? None of which is happening. The truck runs and drives fine. Could it be a glazed over drive belt making that noise?

Have you had any audio equipment installed recently like an Amplifier? Ground loops can cause alternator whine through the speakers, it sounds like a supercharger and exactly like what you describe.

You could try removing the serpentine belt and runnin gthe truck for a couple of seconds. if the sound is gone, you've got a bearing going on something the belt turns (alternator, ac motor, tensioner pulley)

Mine did that with my cold air intake but it's funny you say it sounds like a supercharger because the sound went away when I took off the CAI and added the supercharger. Not sure if you have a cold air intake on your truck?

super charger sound

red06,

you could have a vacuum leak. It probably sounds like a long little whining, faint but still noticible. Check the EGR valve hoses and check for loose or cracked hoses. Also those little plastic hose joints tend to crack and give you a leak. Let me know how it goes

Super charger sounds diagnosis

Hi guys thanks for all of your suggestions for fixing my 06. I just returned from the dealer and it turned out to be both idler pulleys that were making all that noise. Thanks again, Red06

Just don't care for the way superchargers sound at all. I think the kb one would make me not want to drive fast. Superchargers are fun but the sound not so much.
