Hmm......plastic cover? Isn't plastic an insulator? I don't think I like the idea of insulation around my gears. The idea is to release the heat so that your gear oil doesn't heat up. That is why other gear covers offer cooling fins. Wouldn't the plastic retain heat as opposed to releasing heat.

Just out of curiosity, why would water be getting in to the diff? if you're not leaking fluid out, and that's with temp changes and all through the vehicle sitting cold and then driving (think of expansion/contraction), then how would water enter when you're on a boat ramp? Or are you more talking along the lines of the fluid reaches higher temperature points where moisture condenses inside the diff from the increased heat?
Well I`m not sure how but my front diff. was leaking a bit, when I took off the cover the fluid was like milk. The front is never under water so I`m not sure if all that was condensation or what.. Thats what started this whole thing.. well along with needing a new axle
