Which differential and gear ratio?

Which differential and gear ratio?

I want to get as much power to the ground as possible but dont want anything un-streetable like a locker. I'm thinking either 4.10 or even 4.30 ring and pinion and either Detroit TruTrac or Auburn Pro Series differentials. I will be using this setup strictly for street use. I want the best setup to lay some rubber and just plain rip. The 3.73 with open differential is pathetic. I WANNA LAY SOME RUBBER! any suggestions in brand/model/ratio between the gears and differential??? i have the 31 spline

running stock-ish size tires like you are, i wouldn't go lower than a 4.30, personally...

since you have a 8.8 rear end...


4.10's should be plenty unless you put on huge tires (what size are your tiresnow???)

275/55R20 like it says in my sig. any suggestions on differentials? the 4.30 is just so tempting... hehe

Those are 32's. Pretty close to stock. If you want to send your tires up in smoke you need 4.56's and a high stall torque converter.

While smoking tires it cool (I LOOVVVE to do it), it is kind of pointless if you cannot hook up; not to mention expensive to roastum' all the time.

well, i had an 89' tbird supercoupe 5spd with mods and and i drove it like i stole it. if anyone knows about supercoupes, they surely know what kind of rubber these cars can lay. so i went from this to my 05' 4.6 with a 3.73 LSD. im almost depressed everytime i go to punch it from a stop. i don't mind getting new tires here and there, but i do mind being above 2250rpms at 70mph. randy's ring and pinion says my truck with 4.30 going 70mph will turn 2219rpm. with 4.10 it's 2116rpm. *(with the 3.73 it turns about 1925 rpm)* My question is: switching from 3.73 to 4.10 OR 4.30 how much gas mileage might i see to lose at freeway cruising speed(70mph)? Also, how much more powerful will m truck feel switching from 3.73 to either 4.10 OR 4.30? AND WHICH DIFFERENTIAL DO YOU GUYS RECOMMEND!!!? lol

I'd say go with the 4.10's made by Ford Racing, and a True-Trac limited slip. It's going to be expensive but you'll like it. As for mileage loss, it should be hardly noticeable, .5-1 MPG loss if anything. I wouldn't go any higher than 4.10's just because it's a 2WD with street tires.

ok ok. but a lot of mustang guys put in 4.10. that car is pretty light compared to the f150. shouldn't i do 4.30 due to high weight and smaller 4.6 engine? - since it IS a street truck

bro, as soon as i find the camera. trust me, it sucks not having any pics up. i wanna show off just like the rest of you

honestly a 4.30 will make a more noticeable difference but it may affect your highway mileage but if you drive in town mostly then the 4.30 may be a better choice

That desire, along with gas mileage, is an oxymoron. Get 4.56's. The 4.6 does NOT have much low end torque.
