STX Radio Surround
STX Radio Surround
Does the radio surround properly fit into the opening in the brushed aluminum looking panel?
I notice that on the bottom right hand corner of the black STX radio surround / holder, it doesn't actually clear it. I haven't found a way to make it fit perfectly.
I wonder if this is just my truck or perhaps a flaw in the manufacturing of that brushed aluminum piece.

I broke my camera or I would send a picture.
There are no problems whatsoever with the RADIO itself, but the radio mounting bracket (that black bracket that has STX printed on the top).
In the bottom right hand corner you can see (on mine) that the chrome/whatever colored dashpad thing is sitting on top of the black radio surround/bracket.
I have a small and large picture of my dash area. Look at the yellow sticker near the radio that covered the airbag safety keyslot from the factory. Just to the upper left of that you can see that the chrome/brushed steel panel has ane xtension that goes underneath that black STX bracket, yet above the A/C controls.
Now, I can see it because I know what I'm expecting, but on the right side of that strip its actually RESTING on the black STX panel. Whereas on the left side, it goes beneath the STX panel and sits flush to the A/C control backing plate. So that chrome/brushed metal strip is actually eating some of the black off that STX bracket.
Again, when I can grab a camera I'll take a closeup of the area. I reiterate its not the faceplate that has a problem, its the chrome/brushed metal strip to the black STX bracket.

Yep, I can see it. Yours has the exact same thing. Notice on the left hand corner of the STX bracket under the radio, you can actually see the corner? Well, look over on the right, the corner is obscured.
I bet if you went out to look you'd see that there is gap between that strip on the right side that isn't on the left side.
When I go into work I'll put arrows on the image to show you what I'm talking about.
At least I know its not just mine, now.

After you explained it a little better I looked at my pic, and sure enough it was off. I'll look at it today, but I am pretty sure there is not a lot that can be done to it.

I was half-way hoping it wasn't just my vehicle that way I might be able to buy a replacement panel and have it all line up properly.
After having removed that brushed metal panel a bunch of times for various installs, that corner is suffering, its looking kinda nasty. The black paint is coming off. I may pull the bracket again at some point and paint it with por-15 so it will not rub off again.
I still have plans to upgrade all the speakers in the truck, install an amp, and a subwoofer, and thats going to mean a fair number of times removing all that stuff in the dash. Plus I may take this Kenwood deck out at some point and go to a newer model (when they come out with one that has a more intelligent display, and faster track->track seek times in mp3 mode).
