Strange Color

I have a strange color 2003 F150 XLT Supercab. I just bought the truck about 3 months back so needless to say I was just perusing the ol' propaganda pamplets they have at the dealers for the 03 F-150 and find out that the color that my truck is was not an option for the truck it is. What color is it you ask? Burgundy Red Metallic and from the literature only offered on the STX or Heritage model. So being that I am **** and like answers to seemingly useless questions I called up Ford's tech line. It seems my truck rolled off the assembly line June 7 03 and production on the 03 was halted on June 22 03. So it looks like since Burgundy Red Metallic is not offered as a color for 04 they had a bit extra to use up and painted a select few other trucks the color that came to be. Anyway just though I would share the strange factoid.

Anyone think this will become a collector's item in like 20 years or so from now?? It would seem to be one of those strange not every day occurances anyway but then again it may be commonplace. Anyone have a similar story or vehicle?

I bet I know where you bought your truck from....Gwinett Place Ford?

If so I saw the truck you speak of. In fact they had two their like mine one in Silver and the other in Burgundy.

Good Choice in Pickups!

STX models are the best looking 03's around!

I have seen other Burgandy Red Metallic '03 F-150's. If you go to ford's "build it" website, (even though you can no longer order one), it lists that color as an option.

Actually got the truck from Coutesy Ford in Conyers, GA.

Anyway thanks for the input. I got some pics of it uploaded finally.

Oh Adam, It is the XLT not the STX, That is why the color was odd for the model. The color was only offered on the Heritage and STX versions.

Doug, The build it website is offering Burgundy Red Metallic only on STX and Heritage. I tried what you are saying before I ever called Ford and when you selected that paint color it automatically removes the XLT package and converts it over to STX. Also the parchment color captains seats are not available with the Burgundy Red Metallic paint color either. Not to mention that when I called Ford about it they advised me that there were no special orders available in my trim level (XLT) and interior/exterior colors. I asked them how it could be like this and they said that the plant must have had some of the burgundy paint left over and used it rather than wasting paint since it was a color only used for the 2003 aniversary.

nditech,

You are dead on ***** accurate with that statement it is actually Merlot pearl or something like that and has the Ford FX paint code. The guy at the body shop told me that when I had the tonneau painted but the color was the same as what is on the truck. It costs quite a bit extra for that paint to if you haven't noticed yet, about $45/pint (depending on company).

What I find most odd about this particular color is that Ford chose a color so close in shade to the torreador red and that they are calling it by a different name than what it actually is. Actually Ford calling the color by their own name is not really all that unusual since I have seen in the past that the paint that matches up is not called the same name in many cases. However, it was only available for 1 year and supposedly only available on the Heritage or STX.

That much being said the fact remains that those out there with the Burgundy Red Metallic paint on anything other than an STX or Heritage have got a rare item.

I agree with you there with a little time and effort and some good wax and polish you can make it look superb. Also looks great just cleaning it regularly. That's a great looking truck you got there nditech.

What Company you working for? I assume NDI as a tech from your handle but not sure what NDI stands for or what they do? Care to elaborate? I work for AT&T myself in the NOC/TCC as a tech, well for the time being anyway.

I work for a company called TAI Services, our office is in Marietta, we do Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) on Industrial A/C units. For example we test the the units at the Atlanta airport. I also have a friend that works for an AT&T I think. His name is josh. Not sure what his position is I know he is a tech of some sorts.
