STX Model
Its offered in a 4x4, and comes with additional trim features (I think just stickers) if you have the 4x4.
I saw ONE at the dealership and it was a special order, so mine is also on special order. Build date is January 6 (3 days after Ford factory low interest incentives run out!! Grr!!).
I believe it has only been an available option since September or October because the salesman I visited at the dealership HADN'T EVEN HEARD OF IT!! That came as a huge surprise to me.

I don't have any hard facts on this one but this is what I think.
For the '98 modle year there was an STX appearance package offered. It was an add on tho the XLT that gave color keyed bumpers and mirrors, 17" wheels with Goodyear Eagles, a different grill and the stickers.
In looking at the '03's on the Ford site I saw that they are offering another STX. I believe that it is almost the same as the above but in a 4X4.
There have been other models with an STX package, like the Ranger.
Like I said, these are not hard facts.

My New STX
I just purchased a new 2003 F-150 XL STX last Monday. This is an add on package that consists of :
17" Chrome wheels and BF Goodrich Tires from the Lariat
Color keys mirrors, wheel trim, and bumpers
Billet grill with chrome trim
Custom headlights
Front Facia from the Lightning with fog lights
3.55 Rearend
Chrome exhaust tip
Sport 60/40 split bench seat
Chrome tubular running board
Bad A$$ Kenwood Z828 MP3/Stereo
This package is a $995 option and IMHO it is well worth it. My truck is just an XL, but on the outside, it looks like a much more expensive truck.
The salesman told me that the reason Ford made this package is because of the body changes coming up in 2004, so they are trying to get rid of a lot of these parts.
Hope this helps.

My STX just arrived, and I cannot be happier! I love everything on the truck, I can't think of anything I would change in retrospect.

i have a few question on the STX as well, is it just an add on to any of the f150s or a whole seperate truck? mscott, i like the stuff u have with your truck and was deciding whether to get a lightning or not, but i might want a 4X4 cause we get some snow in NJ especially now, and i really like yours with the 5.4, how much do these trucks set you back?

Its a 'package' like the Sport package.
You can get the STX 4x4, as far as I know the only difference on the 4x4 model is that it has a 'special' STX 4x4 emblem on the side.
Also, good luck finding a 5.4, I called all over and the dealer called around and NOBODY had ordered a STX w/5.4 that we could get a hold of, so I had to special order.
It took mine a long time to arrive as well because they also apparently don't get the XL option on the STX very much. The dealer said thats why it took so long, if I had ordered XLT I would have gotten it much quicker.
Also, because of the fact that they special ordered, the dealer did not give me any discount off MSRP, so with all the costs I ended up around 26.7 thousand.
Had I been willing to skimp on the engine I probably could have gotten one off the lot, but my friend who leases trucks used to have a 5.4 and now has a 4.6, and pulling a trailer + car was super easy on the 5.4, and is quite a strain on the 4.6, comparatively.
I'm guessing the salesman I dealt with is very happy, since I came in with all the options I wanted beforehand, and he didn't have to spend a lot of time teaching me about the trucks.

im sorry im asking so many questions, im not very knowledgeable on these trucks, whats the diff between the XL and XLT? basically i want an f150 with a cab like yours and 5.4 engine and a, i giess stepside? like on the lightnings, almost looking like a 00 harley with the STX package, any help?
I don't know what stepside means or know much about the harley f-150.
There are a bunch of convenience differences between the XL and XLT, of which I don't know all of them. Things like power locks, power windows. I know that the XLT comes with carpeting that I wanted to avoid, I prefer the vinyl floor mat. For me, I was mostly interested in functionality, the options I chose were because I had a specific need for them (towing package because I tow a car on a car trailer, etc). I think its a good idea to put out a list of the things you NEED and the things you WANT and decide what price range you can afford, then you start throwing out or adding options and decide what's most important.
If money was no object I would have ordered 4x4, XLT, and all the convenience options I could.

i basically need the 4X4, and gitta have a cab abd the 5.4 engine, but i want a nice sporty look im prolly gonna go check this out when it gets warmer here since i got 2 ft of snow right now and cant drive my mustang in it right now, i like the lightning and would get it if it wasnt fot the snow and weather here
I went down to the dealer last week to get the first oil change and noticed they had about 4 STXs on the lot now, compared to Zero before.
I finally saw a Burgundy Red STX, I liked it, probably would have gone with it for uniqueness instead of the blue, but it doesn't look tons better or anything.
Did you ever check out the STX models?

I have seen all the colors on them, I myself got the blue, I was on Fords web site looking for them to see who had them in my area.
I got a SC/FS XLT with the 5.4 waiting at the dealership right now, just waiting for Ford to buy back there Lemon 2002 Explorer.
