Seatbelt Retract problem
I am having problem with my "new-to-me" '97 F-150.
The seatbelt on the drivers side does not rectract very well. When I take it off usually it will fall to the floor and sometimes get closed in the door. I can help it retract, but it is very slow.
Any suggestions?

I have the same problem sometimes. I've noticed that when you take it off if it is some what folded over that it wont go back and if you help it and straighten it out it goes back fine. also if you toss up up when you go to take it off it goes back at its normal rate.
Mine does the same. I think it is just the way we take them off, like hmustang said, they just fold a little bit when we take them off. I just ignore mine and make sure it isn't in the door, and straighten it out when I get back in to put it on again.
I have always had this problem, of course after the warranty was up...but on a Windstar I used to own the same thing always happened. Under warranty, the dealer somehow tightened it back up and it worked fine. ONE DAY I'll try to fix it myself on my truck, but for now I just feed it back in myself, slowly.
My seatbelt has been like that since we bought the truck used with 24k on it. I'm at close to 66k now, and it has never really gotten worse. It is a little annoying at times, so I guess I'll get it fixed soon enough. I'm still wondering if the lumbar is covered under the 6/75 warranty, I hope!!,,,,,98
My seatbelt has done it since day one, when it was brand new. I have a feeling there isn't enough tension on the spring that makes it retract back. It is funny also, because the passenger side works fine. Must be something that wears out after so many times of putting it on. Just an idea.
Seatbelt retract problem
My be a problem common to Ford trucks. My '92 Explorer 2dr Sport exhibited the same trait. More of a nuisance than anything, UNLESS the slack got caught in the door before you buckled-up. Could have been dangerous if a wreck had occured while the belt wasn't really "tight". Of course, that never happened in my case, because my girth always made it so I ran out of belt before I could reach the buckle.
