Door Crack Repair

I have a '98 F150 XLT Supercab. I found out about the door cracks from this web site and discovered them on my truck. I mentioned this to Fines Ford in Bolton Ont. Canada and was told that Ford had a repair program. Unfortunately my truck was beyond the 120,000 km. limit for Ford subsidized repair. The service rep (Daryl) spoke to Ford and got my repair authorized. I was also told that Ford would subsidize the repair to the bottom edges of all 3 doors on my truck to clean-up the surface rust in this area and repaint them. I also requested that the tailgate of the truck be cleaned up and painted at the same time which would be at my expense. The quality of the repair looks very good and the paint match and finish are excellent. To top it all off, the total bill for this work was $136.23 (Canadian). This is excellent service from Ford and has guaranteed them a future sale when it is time to replace my truck. Good luck to others with the same problem. GlennMc.

Door crack repair

I had the same work done on my '98 F150 minus the tailgate and it cost me $192.00 Canadian. Cosmetically it looks OK but they blocked the middle two drain holes on both large doors and now the interior door handles are sloppy as hell. You can bet I'll be taking it back and I'll ask about the price as well. Did two of your drain holes get plugged? I'd like to get in touch with you to discuss/compare repair quality as I'm in your neighbourhood.
Thanks

The middle two drain holes in my doors were not plugged and I have had absolutely no other problems created by the repair. The shop that did the work even sprayed some rust proofing inside the doors while they were in there. I am very satisfied with the repair so far. GlennMc.

What about a used truck?

Since I bought my truck used, I wasn't aware that the door cracks even existed until I visited this site. Then went out and saw that I did indeed have a start of the crack just showing from underneath the weatherstripping.

Am I SOL as far as getting Ford to fix this since I bought my truck used?

Glenn Mc,

I'd like to get in touch with you re: your door fix and how your dealership dealt with it. Like I said, I'm not happy with how my dealership handled my problem and would like to pursue it further. I have specified my e-mail address in my "options" so you should be able to send me a private message. If you can't, try contacting the webmaster to see what he can do. If that doesn't work I'll post my e-mail address. Just don't want every T, D, & Harry e-mailing me.
Thanks,
Dan (liddle_g)

Door Cracks

Hi all

Just some general help on this subject. As the proud owner of a brand new (to me) '97 F150. I am curious as to where these cracks are located. One post led me to believe they are on the bottom of the door, but I seen nothing on mine and am concerned that I am looking in the wrong place.

Thank you

Ed

My 99 had the cracks when I turned it in. I leased the 99 SC but bought my 01. Basically, it was a try it before you buy it deal. I did not worry about having it fixed since it was really Ford's truck...lol. My truck only had 12,000 miles on it when the cracks started appearing. The cracks come out at the bottom of the window opening at the curvature. Look at the plastic weatherstripping at the rear of the window. Sorry for the poor description but I hope it helps...

door crack location

Edincal,

Go to the F150online home page and look in the right hand column titled "What's New". About half way down is an internal link to a door crack article that includes pictures. Check it out.

Glenn mc,

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you lately but my wife just had a baby recently and I've been on holidays on-and-off for the last 3 weeks.

Happy New Year to all!!
