Question replacing gray grill on 99 F150??

Are the grill's in the newer F150's interchangable?? I have a 99 XLT with the gray honeycomb grill, which I don't care for. Can I replace it with a 00/01 black grill easily?????

Cool

I'm fairly sure you can swap out the grill, I just gave my grey one to someone who switched it with his original. The trick is getting the old one out without breaking any retaining clips.

SLAPSHOT, I have the grille from ja_stang86 and I painted it black bfore i installed it. I used barbeque grill paint, figured it would hold up under the conditions. Just an idea hope this helps

Well, I think when I price one next week, I may opt to paint it instead. I will probably use black laquer or something really hard. i am just worried about screwing it up..LOL

ive done it

I changed my horizontal bar grill on my 99 with a honycomb off of a 2001. I got it off of ebay for 45 with shipping and handling. it was some rv and truck customization company that sold it to me. they did a great job of rmoving the peice i got from them, all the tabs where whole and no scratches on the plastic.

I found one from Truck and Rv supply in Indiana. They want $35 plus $20 for s/h.....$55 total isn't bad. Is the Ford emblem in the center easy to change over?? How tricky are the mounting clips??

not bad

the ford emblem on the front is easy to remove. there are two pins that line the emblem up and a third center stud that has a nut threaded onto it to keep the emblem in place. Getting the grilly out is a bit harder. I used two flat ended screwdrivers to spread the tabs apart. I started on the left and right sides because the have the smaller tabs. If you are not planning on reusing or resaleing you grill i would suggest breaking the tabs on it if it looks like the little arrow shaped tabs on the grill surround want to break. I had to break the two smallest lock tabs on my original grill to get it out. It just takes alittle patience. I did it in my parking spot at college in about an hour. thats includes pulling the headlights and grill surround off, changing the grill and putting it back together.

You will have to remove 2 or 4 plastic christmas tree rivets to get the grill sourround seperate from the front fenders. I used a wire sidecutter set of pliers and just cut them off. You can get replacement rivets from Lowes or any decent autostore.
