Bumper Damage
Bumper Damage
I had a guy back into my truck yesterday and it ended up pushing one side of my bumper back about 1.5-2 inches. Would this be an expensive fix if i took it in somewhere or would it be best to leave it alone?
I backed into a tree many years ago with my "87" F150 and rolled the step n tow bumper right under the truck.
I backed up to a suitable tree at my house and with a come-a-long, I was able to straightened it right out and you couldn't even tell.
So, if you have access to a come-a-long, it might be worth giving it a try. You can probably tweak that end of the bumper right back into place.

Now, the rear bumper on my "87" was painted and showed no after effects from the initial damage or from my repair efforts.
A Chrome bumper might be a different story. If it is bent far enough you could possibly damage the chroming while pulling it back into place. The chrome could crease or crack along the line of the original bend etc.
As others have mentioned. I would check with the other drivers insurance.
I think on a chrome bumper I would attempt my back yard repair only as a last resort.
Well i knew the guy and since it was minor damage he said hed pay for it and not have insurance involved. I was just curious as to the best route to go.
I guess i didnt make myself clear though, its only the mounting bracket that was bent and not the actual bumper itself. Im guessing all these comments still apply though?

I just had my truck get fixed from a collision. Long story but the major damage was from the front end hitting a tree.
The insurance companies count the front and rear bumpers on the truck as structural components. This means they do not repair as stated, they only replace. Both my front and rear bumpers were replaced.
