CRAP!! I hit my own truck with an ATV!!!ADVICE?
Well , what can I say? Its been snowing like crazy here in OH and I'm plowing my driveway. I back up to do another pass and BAM
right into my bed with my ATV!! I guess you can hit a really big red truck in the white snow! It did nothing to the ATV of course.... but now I have a nice rust prone spot on my bed in a bad spot! Right on the body line too. What makes me even more mad is the trucks 13 yrs old (1997) not a dent on it and original paint! I know its not a collectors truck or something but damn!
What to do? 13yr old paint faded, little nicks here and there but nice! This is going to involve the whole side of the bed 8' of it and its not gonna match. I still got to tell the insurance company something but I never ran into my own stuff. I know their not gonna paint the whole bed and just gonna want to do the spot hit.
Any body people out there no what this will entail? Is there a way for it to look right fixed with sun faded paint!!
Anyone been here before? Any pointers on what to do, tell... The trucks been paid for for 8 yrs and have full coverage, but my deductible is 500.00 for collision, 100.00 for act of god...
You can check my album for pics of it cleaned up before the hit.

tell them you slid on the ice
typically insurance will pay to paint new clear coat on the panels surrounding it (to the left and right) to blend the paint color to the old stuff.

I got a dent in my 99, and I was worried about the same thing ... I didn't want to end up with one corner of the truck looking new and the rest 10 yrs old. I don't know how they did it, but the repair blends in well with the rest of the truck.

I guess I'm just worried about body filler being used. The harsh winters around here plus hot summers. New repair, dead of winter, fresh paint, cured enough? I'm just ignorant when it comes to body work and how its done! Plus, I noticed it shifted my WHOLE BED ! Yeah I know an ATV? I think having the 3" body lift gave alittle being hit on the furthest point corner wise.It must have shifted the spacers because right behind the cab on the passenger side is almost touching the bed and the driver has a huge gap. The rack on the ATV is pushed slightly but not much. It does weigh about 700+ pounds with plow and over-sized tires.
Plus I got a 500.00 deductible,I'm just curious I guess how much the actual work is gonna be.. more or less... I guess I'll get an estimate tomorrow.

Wow, that does look good! I might not be so worried now. Except my up front cost! Just makes me wonder if I can get it fixed for under 500.00 and look good.
Thats what I don't want unless they can match the paint on the whole truck. That could get costly especially on a 13yr old truck.Insurance Co. would start barking then!

Well back from Body shop and Its gonna be $949.50 for the insurance to bite and 500.00 for me to bite to fix. They said they could match the paint. Involves redoing the whole bed side clearcoat to blend in , top trim bed guard replaced new, old ones break at mounting and can't be reused, side molding, removal of bumber, tail light... So , I think I might hold off on it just because its still winter . I can throw some paint on the bare metal and hold till spring. Still what a hassle, my bed still needs repositoned. It did move so I'll do that after the body work.
i did something similar to my truck but instead of hitting it i left my 4wheeler parked on a hill with no brakes and it broadsided my truck from 20 yards, directly on the fiberglass bedside and destroyed it! it cost a little over $500 to fix no insurance
I'm going to try a couple more good shops around here I know of. I think I can get a lower but get the job done for 500-700 and leave my insurance out of it. It Just sucks because of insurance (500.00 deduct) even for a couple hundred more I'd bite it . Now the whole driverside (bed) is going to be bright and shinny and the rest of the truck semi gloss if you will....it is 13yrs old... I like to take care of my stuff and look good on the otherhand I hate to leave it damaged!
just make sure you go to a good shop and they probably wont paint your stock color back on there they will match as close as possible the color and then blend and no one will be able to tell it will all look like it did before you hit it
If you want them to repaint the whole bedside, just go run into it with the quad again.
Just remember, you get what you pay for. For almost $1,000 it sounds like they're a good shop. I had 2 bubbles a little smaller than a penny on my bed and had some other things touched up. I had it done in September 09 and it cost a little over $600 and just a few weeks ago I noticed that there's a bubble starting again and a little bit of paint flaking off the bottom of the cab.
