Carbon fiber bed
Carbon fiber bed
My friend has a 2001 f150 supercrew with the 5.5' bed. he claims that his bed is carbon fiber and that he gets 19 mpg. Was there such an option as a carbon fiber bed?
no... i think he is thinking of composite bed, but thats not the same thing as carbon fiber...if he has a 2wd there is a very good chance he could be getting 19+ highway, and probably just under that in the city if hes a fairly moderate driver, my uncle gets 18 city/22 hwy in his 01 2wd screw with the 5.4L v8 and the auto tranny

It's not CF. That would be stupid expensive for sure, it would be a one off design and he would be super stupid to pay for that. It is either fiber glass or composite. I have no clue what composites are made of. ABS maybe?

I had a '98 Flareside. The SuperCrews had a similar bed. It is not Fiberglass. It is a composite material but I am not sure what it is made of. The great thing is that it will not dent. It does scratch easily, though.
I believe my '94 Mustang GT had a composite hood, too.

Only thing Ford makes Bed Side Panels out is either sheet metal or fiberglass. Thats it, and it only the side panels. The front, tailgate and inner structure are all metal.
The MPGs numbers can easily be made up. How often do you think he drives "normal", probably not for a whole tank worth of gas. My Jeep gives you actuall fuel economy at the precise moment. While it sucks on gas (average about 15) I get about 6 mpg off the line and if I am coasting down a hill I can get 99 mpg out of it.
But I don't run around telling people I get 50 mpg at times, yet it would be true.
Reminds me of the kid that got pulled over in the Dodge Stealth and when the cop said to him "I got you on radar doing 40 in a 25" he said "how did you get me on radar this is a Stealth" I love people like that.

Well, i showed him this thread, and after a few harsh words about how dumb you guys were
he claims that the inside of the bed is regular sheet metal and that the outside is carbon fiber
He also claimed that this was only available for 2000-2002. on the supercrew short beds.
