Need your opinions on what to do to my new F150

I just got a 2008 f150 king ranch, and I wanted to hear some of your opinions on what all I should have done. The first thing I was planning on doing was choosing between a leveling kit and a lift kit. I am planning on leaving the stock tires and wheels on for a bit longer, and I believe the rims are 20" and the wheel is 31 or 33" in diameter. So should I go with a leveling kit now? or should I save up my money for the full lift kit? Second I was going to go with a grille guard, and I was going to ask what brands you guys like? Any other things you would recommend adding? if you have pics you would like to share go ahead and post him. But thanks so much for giving me the advice, this is my first truck and i need the advice.

Thanks!
-Jake

If you don't plan on off roading your truck the leveling kit will be suffice.

Do you think it will still look well running on stock tires and wheels?

As is it right now, how do yo like the looks of your stock tires and wheels on the truck?

If you don't like them now then you will certainly not like it when you do the added leveling kit.

I like them now i think, they look pretty good, but I don't like it when I see people with tires that look disproportional to how high their truck is. Does that make sense?

Gotcha, at 2.5 you'll hardly notice the deference, so I'd say it will still look good.

2.5" is a good bit, my old man just put a 1.5" on his 06 King Ranch and it looks perfect. Netted him 2" of lift after alignment.

how much do you guys think this should run me in cost? I talked to 4wheelparts over the phone and a guy said that with everything it will run me about $700. That sounds way to high. I have a 4x4 king ranch, and he said i would probably need an add-a-leaf too. What do you guys think it should cost?

Jake, it's your truck. We don't even know the color nor are we paying for it. Look at trucks, decide what you like, then look at costs both initially and those reoccurring as well as effect on warranties ... and legality.

I'm 56 years young, been changing stuff on personal cars and trucks .... and sometimes even "work" cars .... my whole life it seems (I guess goes back to my bike and my model car kits as well), and I found out a long long time ago to do that which meets a limited criteria.
  • Do I like it?
  • Is it legal?
  • Can I afford it?
  • Assuming I can, is it's cost acceptable to me?

I don't care what the local favorite hot tip or most recent fad is, when I'm on the road driving it ...
... it only matters what I like. When younger, many years ago, I did some stuff that others said was so cool, and usually, almost always, found I was just wasting my money and time and most often undid it.

Example ... Understand that things that a suspension lift will change more than just height. A lift will change the handling, it will create more space open around the fender / tire, it will make it harder to get in and out, and it will look "less good" to me.

I also do not like leveling kits because invariably, the result is a drooping rear with the smallest load. Looks like a week truck. Trucks rears are supposed to sit up a bit, it's why their fenders are often shorter in back.

i agree with tbear. things that i think will look good on my truck, my buddies might think otherwise. same with my buddies putting things on their trucks that i might not agree with but they love the look of it.

i just graduated high school and went to college. my senior year i was hit and totaled my 2000 stepside 4x4. on that truck i had a magnetic whip cb antenna on the roof. some people used to make jokes about it, but i personally liked it so i kept it on. right now i have an 04 supercrew fx4. the guy i bought it from put a leveling kit on it and 33 inch bfgoodrich all terrains. the only thing i have done to it is tinted it and put a set of new bfgs on it. i love the look of it and don't plan on spending my money on things i do not need.

it is really all up to your personal opinion

as the guys said its your truck.

But look around at other guys trucks of similar year etc. and see what they have done to it and if you would like the looks of it so you know the end result.
