Frustrated With Troyer's E-Fans And Their Services
After I had my Troyers E-Fans installed in August, I have had my 3 Relay switches cook on me. The first time it happened the relays switches froze only after 5 days of installation. I was on the road when my truck suddenly overheated. After turning off the truck then turning on the ignition without starting the engine I noticed that the fans would not turn on. I found out that the relay switches were melted. I proceeded to straight wire it and took it back to the shop. Troyer would not replace the relay switches and its component until the shop sent them the damaged ones. 1 month later, yes it is not a typo, ONE MONTH LATER, Troyer finally decided to send a replacement.
A week later guess what I exprienced the same problem as before, again had to rip the wires apart and hot wire it again until I got back to the Shop. Another month and a half later Troyer finally decided to send 2 new replacements. That was about 3 weeks ago. Well guess what, 2 weeks ago when I turned off my truck to gas up I noticed that my fans were running, no key in the ignition. Relay switches again fried shut

I'm now on an on and off kill switch waiting probably for another month or more when Troyer decides to send a new pair of switches and its female components.
The fans are wired in accordance to Troyers specification, the mechanic has explained to Troyer in front of me the process he took to install the fans. Troyer agreed that the mechanic did installed them correctly. The problem is, I'm not the only one having this issue. Anybody else having this same issue. I have personally lost confidence in Troyer.

AZFX4 Can attest to the first time the E-Fans Froze on me. I knew I should have gone with the Flex alite.
As a matter of fact it took over 2 months to get my fans in the first place, I should've gotten the hint since then.

i had a relay melt open on me. i let the wife drive my truck home after we got the oil changed in the flex. well when i opened the garage, the high temp-a/c fan was still going. i pulled the fuse and tried to figure out what was up. i found the relay was actually bubbled and when i went to pull if out of the controller, the relay cracked in a few pieces. i had to use a screw driver to get it separated. i replaced it with a high quality relay and have not had a problem. the controller was damaged a little and i emailed troyer but never got a reply. in their defense, i might have mis-typed the email address and i have not followed up. i know that since then, i have re-taped all the wires and also plan to taped up the entire controller. it is soo exposed to the elements i can see how it is prone to fail. i will be getting the spall fan controller when i get back in November. it is weatherproof and much more ruggedly built. i do-not however, have a issue with the troyer fans themselves. great unit, well built and moves a lot of air quietly.
*** AFTER I SENT THE FORST POST EDIT***
after thinking about it some more and talking to my wife. it is not such a great product. if the most important part is known to fail, why haven't they fixed it? OR IF THEY HAVE FIXED IT, FIX IT RIGHT THIS TIME. my wife told me that she wouldn't take my truck anywhere cause she was worried it would over heat or catch fire. she saw the controller and was like WTH is wrong with that. i guess i am done with troyer as well. i did order a valve body through them but canx after they said it would be 2 weeks and that was IF they get them in 2 weeks. i shouldn't have to pay another 175$ (spal controller) to feel confident in my truck enough to road trip it. but i will do my part to tel those that ask the truth about these heralded fans.

I have not been too impressed with the Troyer kit since I installed it. The bracket that holds the fans together and to the rad is garbage. Mine did not fit right from the get go. It was a PITA to get the bolts to thread to the fans and the brackets to hold it all to the rad needed to be redrilled to allow the fans not to rest right against the rad as it stated in the instructions. The instructions were crap. Mine were for a different controller than the ground switched controller that came with my kit so they made very little sense. When I called Troyer the lady who answers the phones tried to help me but she knew less about the fans than I did so I waited to hear back from a mechanic. He knew what he was doing and filled me in on the wiring process and we discovered I was missing an insert in the instructions for the new controllers. They promissed to send the insert by email and never did.
I bought this kit because the "melting controllers" problem was supposed to be fixed and the kit was supposed to have everything that was needed to install it. I found out right away I needed more than what came in my kit for a clean installation. The wire loom was the smallest available and useless for most of the wiring. Now I see everyone having issues with the new controllers and that gives me no confidence in this set up.
I did wire in a fan on switch so if I had a problem with the controllers my truck would not overheat. Now, I guess, I will replace the relays on the controllers with better ones and hope that helps. Maybe some dielectric grease on the relay prongs will help keep the connection dry as well. I am glad I saw this thread.

try having your mechanic put the relays inside the cab, i dont have troyer fans but i was melting relays weekly, after i moved them inside i have not had a single issue

word of mouth is a ***** if the words are not good. i was tempted to use that liquid electric tape and literally cover the controller connections with it.. but i am leary of the outcome.
th ein the cab idea sounds good but i would have to rewire it all again.. maybe when i get back. azmidg did you upgrade the wire size when you did it?

i dont have the troyer controllers i just use 3 relays and a temperature sensor, i did use some hefty wire though, probably 12 gauge, i just think that with them inside the cab they dont have to also deal with the under hood temps, especially for us who live in the desert
Had anyone tried the 2010 F-150 electric fans to see if they will bolt up to a 04-08 model?
